@SRD I can do photoshopping (Gimping, actually) in the warm with a glass of something appropriate to hand...

(Oh yes, and the only camera I have on the bike is the video, and that battery on that had gone flat on the wya home).

But other than that, yes, it would have been quicker to take a picture.

I decided to run along the canal today and very nice it was too. I took a couple of photos of the repair but will have to work out how to get them off my phone. Anyway the digital manipulation above gives a pretty good idea.

    Ooopsie...
I will try and remember to get the photos I took of the new repair out of my phone and put them up.

(Completely OT, I also have a load of photos of bikes in Landshut, Bavaria, that I thought would interest some on the forum and I have not yet got round to doing anything with them either...)

Thanks chdot. was waiting for Mr SRd to upload our photos, which didn't happen. I too was unimpressed with the 'fix'. I suppose it is now 'safe' but it certainly doesn't look good.

" I suppose it is now 'safe' "

Except that there is now a hole/gap less visible than the previous crumble.

    Anyone been in the dark?

I've had a quick look at the photo on my phone, and, as far as I can tell, it is not the bit that was fixed that has crumbled, but the bit next to it.

Yes but - has more fallen away since they started/finished repair work?

Looking at the photo above, it would seem obvious that this was a job half done and they'd need to come back and fix the nearer section as well.

I had a bit of an anxious moment at this spot on Sunday. I'd cycled into town with my sun and we were heading back home again. The tow-path was hooching with pedestrians and cyclists as it was a lovely day but had become less busy by the time we reached this bridge. My son was cycling ahead of me and, as he went under the bridge strayed closer to the edge and was cycling on the newly-repaired bit. From behind, all I could see was him heading closer and closer to the point where the repair suddenly finishes and a sudden drop into the water. Thankfully, he turned back towards the path in time but I can see someone ending up in the canal here unless the job is properly done.

Yes, compared with my photos, more has fallen away.

    Well, that wasn't too painful...

    Repair 1
    shows the new repair and

    Repair 2
shows the bit that wasn't repaired

And now I can compare the two, with the one I took a decent size and not just little on the phone, it does not look like things have changed much. You can see snow on the first photo, which is some evidence that they were not taken yesterday.

The worst section has been fixed. The remaining section being repaired next week by Scottish Canals.

    Remaining section fixed today.

I inspected it in the half light and without stopping, but it's definitely been repaired. Someone's been unable to resist writing their name in the wet cement.

P.S. There's also been the addition of some (state-sponsored, I assume) graffiti on the towpath under one of the bridges nearer Wester Hailes.

It's quite artfully applied to the path itself, and says 'Choose life, not a knife'. A little disconcerting to pass this as I make my solitary progress home in the dusk...

Heh - yes, I spotted the disconcerting grafitti yesterday when I was on my way home disguised as a runner. Must admit it helped up my pace.

There's been one of those around somewhere for a while, I thought?
Good to hear the path under the bridge is fixed.
