Think there's also 'demand' for a 'universal hitch system'!

The guy who has a trailer for his window washing bucket trailer (nifty) has clearly made his out of a wire coat hanger!

@SRD - when we were at centre parks the trailers had space behind kiddie for a couple of rucksacks and a spare seat beside kiddie 1 for kiddie 2 (and as we have no kiddie 2 it got a few loaves of bread and soft fruit, things that wouldn't dent kiddie 1 like a tin of beans would..)

Yesterday we had a box of mangos in beside. very handy.

(if you've not tried the pakistani mangos in the halaal shops now, do so - £4.50 or so for a box - and you'll never buy another supermarket mango in your life).

But can still see scenario where we need to carry more kit than trailer can take, esp if fully loaded with small people. We're still thinking about that Peebles camping trip.... especially now that I've learned how to mend a puncture :)

OK if you plan on camping you might need two trailers, or a load of well packed panniers...

Just attach a trailer to the first trailer. What could possibly go wrong? ;-)

I'm not sure about a share scheme myself, as the main thing I want it for is trips to the supermarket, which I currently do in the car because we take a big box of recycling down. But we don't go at a fixed time or anything, so if the trailer wasn't right there, it would be car time. I'm actually surprisingly bad for using the car for short journeys.

I'll look into the coop Hitches. That's the part i haven't made my mind up about yet. I would happily do a trailer share in Polwarth / Shandon area for those that needed it ( maybe we could get special parking bays like the city car club ) Dave I'll price them up but off the top of my head there's about £50 of materiel in them.

£50's not bad and no welding? Do you have the pipe bender?

I'd need to make some space in my hut, not that it locks and its only passingly water proof but i've no room in the house and while i wouldn't keep a bike in there it would be fine for a trailer.

For anything like £50 I'd be in like a shot...

It goes without saying that 'trailer commuting' will have to be extensively tested :)

I would weld them up. I reckon it'd be easier and stronger than bolting it together. The beauty of them is they fold up pretty flat..ish when you take the wheels off. Just checked out the coop trailer hitch kit. It's £13 but would make sense if more folk were using it as you can get the towball bit for your bike for £7. I can borrow a pipe bender and once I've made the first one and got a template together I could knock them up in a few hours. Obviously I would have to add labour on top but I'll do a proper costing of the whole thing. They can also be designed to meet you're individual needs and child seats could be fitted with seat belts etc......

ohhh..the neighbours are gonna love this - there is already a lot of tsking about the other guy with van who keeps doing noisy things outside his garage (noisier than welding, but with lots of flash....). then again, they approve of bike trailers....

Cnr w/Harden variety of vans/vehicles crammed onto what used to be front lawn. Current van fairly respectable looking - some corp name on it, not quite 'man w/a van'.

Found a pile of them here for different prices, I like the idea of the ones with the buggy handle at the back so you can push it around with wee yins inside when you have left the bike somewhere (and keep the wee yins dry into the bargain)

looking into this more though they have a 40kg limit... not going to get much shopping in there after loading bairn
I also spotted this pic on the flickr page cycling in Edinburgh from the Leith festival - that is a nifty bike seat for an older bairn...

    Spytfyre - here, where?

have considered some of the buggy converter trailers - that is definitely one thing the bike coop one doesn't do. on the other hand, my experience of the 'it does this, and this and this' approach is that they do none of them well. and we already have a buggy or three. bet i can get a small maclaren in back of trailer actually. main benefit to converting one would have to be if bairn fell asleep on the way, and you didn't want to leave trailer outside while you shopped or whatever.

the ones on ebay with the handle. £70. I have to say I got one of these and it has done me proud. I had to replace some bolts and the wheels go rusty VERY quickly but all in it's pretty good value. as a cargo trailer it's not so good but still does the job. I've taken half a drum kit on it and it was a bit bouncy. Buy the time it falls to bits the kids will have grown out of it. The only bit I didn't use was the handle. It's too big and bulky to be a practical pushchair.

There are Burley's, which are supposed to be very good (£500 new, if you believe it), going on ebay for around £200.

Just had a look at that link, a couple can carry over 100kg. Any tried riding with that? How does one manage?

thanks for the link spytfyre - we must be thinking alike. those are the burley's i mentioned. nb a lot of the ones on ebay don't have the extra kit for jogger, but some do. worth checking, although it can be bought separately. I like the idea of converting one to go behind cross-country skis though (have seen that on sale in US)

Certainly cheaper than EBC, and especially if buying in multiples of 2, but do we know it is universal?

Fair enough not quite universal, although if every one has one then you get the nearest thing to universal.
