CarryFreedom make a connector to link two trailers:

Trailer Snake We can supply a bracket so one trailer can tow behind another. This allows the one tow bike to pull unlimited numbers of trailers.

'Unlimited' is a very large number. Can't get better than that!

Had no problems cornering with Bike Co-op trailer, but could not get started again if I had to stop on a hill - even in low gears.

On Saturday, we took trailer to Lowes' pick-your-own, near Danderhall, and then around to a BBQ in Willowbrae and back to Polwarth. The hills coming across through Liberton and Old Dalkeith Rd just did me in - would have been okay if they didn't have traffic lights, but everytime I stopped I had to get off and push. The cycling was fab though, and the strawberries pretty good too.

So how heavy would you say the trailer was all up then?

Man i'm turning into a weight weenie....

Ironically, I think it pulled better when really heavy.

On Friday I had 3 year old (who weighs closer to 4/5 year old -- our scale is broke, but she is a LOT heavier than her friends - all muscle of course:). And I had a very heavy stack of exam scripts to take down to London.

Let's say 40lbs for child and at least that again, probably closer to 50lb for scripts, and the trailer weighs 32lbs. The dead weight actually rolled quite smoothly, as long as it was moderately flat. Biggest hill I went up was probably whitehouse loan between Astley Ainsley and Stathearn. No problems there.

Saturday I had only child (est 40lb), trailer (32lb) and picnic lunch etc. and found I noticed the pull of the trailer more - as it wasn't constant but varied a lot depending on road surface. And, for example, could not get started again at intersection of Mayfield Rd/Kirk Brae.

But I am fairly small, and not all that muscular (also 5 months pregnant, which impedes me a little!)

I think i see what you mean when its heavier it has more forward momentum so the rolling resistance/surface issues are less of a problem but when you loose that momentum you feel the trailer slowing down faster than the bike, even just momentarily, thus pulling on the bike

Glad you can come up with a rational explanation of why that might be!

Also perhaps worth bearing in mind that I usually weigh a bit over 100lbs (slightly more now). So was pulling my equiv in weight which might help explain difficulty in getting momentum uphill.

SRD And, while we're at it, has anyone seen/used/know anyone who has tried the Weehoo iGo bike trailer?

I deployed my hired recumbent elite to find one. They delivered this to me at the Innocent tunnel. Like bikes attract you see...
Taken today using Mobile of the year (2005).

Weehoo has a Scottsh based UK dealer. He'll be fighting me for tandem sales so I shouldn't be giving him any publicity ;-) Weehoo Bike Trailers, Gullane

I did ask for permission from family! They all seemed pleased with trailer.

Thanks for tracking this down. I am quite convinced by the design. perhaps less so by the price tag!

£250 That's why I haven't seen many. Only expensive relatively... but know what you mean.

The tandem behind costs four times as much - but it does have gears and can do lots of different tasks...

Both items are of minor interest to general population though... What they want are electric cars... now!!

£250 ought to buy a Weehoo that allows you to remove the child seat and use it as a trailer or pannier lugger in the style of the Kool Mule - rather than the little baby panniers it has. Mind you, when the Carry Freedom City trailer costs over £300, a dedicated load bike or tandem starts to look quite attractive. Ben Kinetics built some recumbent child trailers a while ago, too.

SRD, well done for carrying on cycling. :-)

    Hi,

We have an older model Halfords bike trailer. The whole thing folds flat with the wheels being removable so its quite small for storage. Search on the Halford site for a picture. The arm which attaches to the bike folds under the trailer and the sides fold in so with the whels off its only around 2 by 4 foot by ~6 inches thick.

Its light but is let down as the underside which is not solid, but a tent groundshet type of material, though ours does not have any rips. I've hired trailers too which a solid base, but don't know the make (I'll try and find out).

The only real let down I see from (nearly) all trainlers I've seen is a lack of suspension. I use our on forrest tracks with our two boys (3.5 years and 20 months), and they can take a battering if we're wizzing over tree roots etc...

Well, at last you can hire our 'home made' bike trailer for the cost of the insurance. Everything can be arranged via ecomodo.com which is a truly marvelous site.

    See: http://www.ecomodo.com/pages/item_view.aspx?id=ea26f7c5-bb98-4593-8869-19e3b83deb01

If anyone else has a trailer out there that is underused, perhaps it would be good to post it to ecomodo too, to make it easy for folk to borrow it?
