    In a fair world you could cycle two abreast on a wide road and when approached by afriendly driver, pull in to let her past? In this world nobody is bothered about two abreast cycling as the friendly driver knows that in a few seconds the friendly cyclist will pull in to allow them past. I was told that in Sweden on single track roads everyone goes at 50 mph but if someone wants to go faster then people pull in for them as they assume the person is in a hurry to catch a ferry or get to hospital or somesuch. This could be made up. But I am now going to make a wild leap (Not like me I know) None of this will ever happen in our mad island. This whole forum sometimes becomes a record of stupid driving (sometimes stupid cycling too of course). You lose track of how many times you are overtaken for the driver then to instantly brake at lights and for you to be in the red box in front of them again. OUr society is about getting an advantage, no matter how small. Thatcher is to blame when she convinced us all we needed to buy our own houses, that was the turning point.

    I did the 100 miler of this and officially started last (only 45 minutes late!) after the cable decided to part company with the rear derailleur. Thanks to the mechanics at the start and lunch station for getting me going and then re-indexing so I could get into low gear for slogging it up the Crow Road!

    Maximum respect to the chap on the hand-cranked tricycle I passed between Aberfoyle and Balfron. And also the boy in the Cambridge University CC gear with only one hand riding a regular drop barred road bike (with some sort of adjusted shifter arrangement) who kicked my ass going down hill (I was trying to catch him to tell him his buddy had got a blow out and had been left about a mile behind up the road)

    Anyway I decided to hunt out and dig up this old thread as a poster I saw on a design blog I read reminded me of this event;

    So you must have got in long before us then!

    We managed back on our trikes by around 6. We did stop quite a bit though. One young rider we met was on her first ever long run solo - which I thought pretty good.

    The chap on the handcycle was just at Strathblane when we saw him.

    We enjoyed this so much that we are doing the X-Border Raid run by same charity. Haddington start on the 19th September. I'll be going back on two wheels for that one. Renting my demo trike out to someone that want to try it for event.

    I finished about 1615. I saw various recumbents and trikes at the Aberfoyle stop on my second time in when I was having my gears re-re-indexed. Was quite possibly yourselves.

    I've been thinking about the X-border 100 as I got a postcard form Action Medical saying I can do it for only £15 entry fee - and I'm looking for an excuse to try out the lovely tourer I just procured on eBay.

    @kaputnick and @laidback That looks like it could be a great day out. Cycling all the way to England and back would be quite an achievement. I have entered it but I don't think I'm going to be able to do it.
