I read it that there are 500 entries throughout the day and from the qualifying 30 fastest will be up against pros. Some wee tyke on a BMX gets my bet to do the pros. However, very poignant in the only cycling film to win an Oscar Breaking Away when hero learns the depth of perfidy the cinzano team will sink to

recombodna, " Jimmy McLeod from a local branch of Greggs is gonna be there.... I've always wanted to meet him. I read his book " It's not about the pie""

I fear you may be disappointed - rumours are that he uses a "special sauce" on his pies. Expect a confession in 8 years time on the Graham Norton show.

    Wilmington's Cow, "Don't worry, wasn't anticipating a sett to... *b'dum tish*"

I was all sett to cobble together some sort of argument about it too!"

I may just look back at my photographs of the Nocturne to spot David Millar's racing line (like it will make any difference to my chances!).

I've signed up for the fixed gear class

I went that way this evening and got less than half way up when I managed to unclip whilst hauling my foot round pedaling squares... We're gonna need a lower gear! We'll I would.

  6. Got my email confirmation overnight. I'm in the 6am qualifying group! Urgh!

Worth noting, the Qualifying is up COCKBURN STREET, so not at the Grassmarket.

I've been given permission to turn up and watch (if I take the kids). will the route(s) be posted somewhere?

    Posted 12 years ago #
  12. The route for the main event in the evening (from 7pm) is simply from the Grassmarket up Victoria Street. That's really it (I'm presuming with Red Bull involved there will be all sorts of shenanigans of shows in the Grassmarket itself - including Danny MacAskill most likely).

Yes, if someone hadn't pointed this out on another forum I'd have been standing in the Grassmarket wondering where everyone was.

  16. @steveo, hell no! Though I will have the big camera lens on my back - figure if I'm riding at 6am I might as well swing home via Duddingston Loch and have a morning wildlife spotting.

After a few beers and a missing track nut I've decided to do this on the bakfiets.

Is there a bakfiets class? If it's like against like the why not. I thought that the single speed Paper Bicycle might be good - but not against whippets on carbon bikes (!)

There is a trike class and a utility bike class. How many other bakfiets will be there??? I'm sure to qualify in my class. WC I don't blame you with a 6am start......

    when's the utility bike race?

  22. I got up 3 hours after I'd have had to in order to get to me 6am qualifying (and it's an hour slot, so could have been standing round in the cold till almost 7 - stuff that).

Don't think there have been any times sent out for specific races SRD - everything just kicks off at 7pm.

@WC, serious dose of CBA, huh?

I'll most likely be there this evening with No.1 son cheering on the racers...

  24. It set in last night. In all of the sign up stuff there was no indication at all that there would be qualifying runs as early as that (I think it said 'during the day'). That's fine for folk who think they have a chance of qualifying and racing in the evening, but I was in what's likely to be the biggest class (road bikes) and precisely zero chance on making the top 30.

I took part in the 0600 group so turned up at 0545 as requested. Unfortunately the organisers weren't ready so we stood around in the cold for an hour. They finally started registering people at about 0630 and by the time I did my race at 0645 I just wanted to get home and warm.

WC, wise choice to give it a miss! It was a lot of pain for a 29 second sprint.

I saw a big black Red Bull Jeep/Tank parked on Regent Road last night. I presume there's a connection?

  27. Crikey - had a feeling it wouldn't be smooth running right at the start!

    24.2 or soemthing.

Chose a big ass gear to start but asI was getting going slipped a bit on the cobbles - too much torque. Then ran out of gear and had to change into a bigger gear about half way up. I think my power to weight ratio works better on the flat or on less steep hills!

Still good fun. Don't blame you for not turning up at 6am.

When I got there there were lots of people just turning up and going for it. They had enough space you probs could still just go down and go for it.

Should be fun tonight - see people there?

There were two chaps in suits on a tandem that went before me. IF they beat me I'll be a bit annoyed.

I managed 38 seconds on the bakfiets. Think I was the only bakfiets. 2 tandems entered. The suit guys and a father and son on a helios went before me. They were letting people with 6am starts go at 10am as it was very quiet. I wonder if I'll qualify in a class of my own???
