If 10am starts were so quiet why on earth did they schedule people for 6???
Ah well, I'll be there about 8ish (given the number of races I'd imagine it'll still be running then) and grab some photos.

Hmmm, results are up for the qualifiers and looks like they're NOT splitting it into categories - they've just got the fastest 30, irrespective of type of machine. So why did they give different categories for the qualifiers?
Looks like mountain bike was the way to do it!

I'm pretty sure that the bike mentioned is not that actual bike used, just the bike used to sign up - Simon who is 18th was riding his racing bike with 23mm (not MTB) and Simon who is 26th was on a CX bike with slicks (not MTB) I reckon most of them will be on road bikes.
Also Simon who's 26th went away on holiday at midday. We were joking about how he was hoping he didn't get in as his wife probably wouldn't let him delay holiday and ride!

Craig Hardie was on a CX bike as well I think. Simon in 26th has gone on holiday - posted on FB that he didn't have the heart to tell the kids that they weren't going on holiday till tomorrow, so one reserve will be in.
Still think it odd that they had categories to sign up to, then ignore them completely...

Yeah it seems a bit weird. Hadn't seen simons facebook post! Hah.
Craig Hardie is amazing. I've seen him ride across foot deep mud like it's tarmac.

Pretty sure the organisation of this event has not been its strong point?

Who won?
Posted 11 years ago # -
We were there for the whole thing. We were right by the finish line, and with a view of the times as they came up on the computers for the race officials.
Great fun, and my son and his mate enjoyed cheering on the riders as they sprinted to the line. A nice thing to go and see. Damned freezing cold though!

I made it downfor the quaters/semi/finals. WAs good fun. A non cycling mate also enjoyed it! Great to see lots of people out. was fair rammed!

Well, the double chocolate porter at the Bow Bar helped but good though the racing was I felt they had cut out too many in the heats. In order to stretch it out to a reasonable length so that it would not all be over too soon riders were kept sitting on the line for far too long. More riders, enabling minimal gaps between more races over the same duration, would be an improvement.
I noticed the award for best female rider was a mixte framed machine. I wonder what they were going to give the best male rider had a female won overall?

WC, any shots of the first heat?
I had a terrible start, completely failing to stay clipped in, so will probably be distinctly in the background of any shots...

Are the qualifiers taking place on the mound?
When the main event was in Victoria Street, they had the qualifiers in Cockburn St.
(And guess who went to Victoria St to see the qualifiers, hung around, then went home?)
Posted 10 years ago # -
Qualifiers are on the Mound as well.
Quite a surprise that CEC are letting them close the road for the whole day...
Wonder where they are diverting the buses?

If anyone is going to the evening event, we're looking for help to hand out POP flyers to people arriving?
You can finish in time to watch the cycling.
PM if you can help.
Thanks

57secs for us.
The fastest were around 27secs.
Some people taking it very seriously - I declined the use of rollers to warm up.
Posted 10 years ago # -
Well done on that time HC & co. Not bad at all I reckon. You'll have some chain stretch!
Irene says St Andrew Square is closed with fire. Trams will be diverted then?

That is a tidy time for such an outlandish rig, HankChief. See you at half six for PoP flyering.
