  1. No idea when I'm going to get my wheels - going to have to go to my wife's work, as the rear hub and rims were delivered there, but she's been off ill for the last week, and just been signed off for this week.

Anyway, was thinking I'm going to just give the Kaff a top-to-toe going-over. Everything off and spruced. Needs a new BB, just recently replaced the chainring and cassette, so that's dandy. Got to thinking that if I stripped it down... Well the paintwork is tired. I do love the look of it, but a shiny new paintjob would be grand.

Would still have to work with the brown Brooks and obligatory matching bar tape. I might splash out on some fancy Woodguards if I'm feeling particularly chipper.

But what colour? Try to match the sand? (SAND, okay! Not beige!) Or British Racing Green? (which would necessitate buying some yellow decals to complete the Lotus look) Would a metallic red work?
(just thinking of using Hendersons for any respray if I decide to do it...)

    The colour that Mallard was/is.

    "garter blue"

LNER also had A4s in a silvery-grey for their Silver Link services. In wartime they were all-over stealth black. BR had them in a rather ugly all-over Brunswick Green. None of these other colours "worked" quite like the garter blue.

I think the colours of steam locos are more suited to bikes than diesels, something to do with those round tubes looking like boiler barrels, and looking good with lining round them.

I thought about that livery but preferred electric blue and sand cream.

My Granddad once had an Austin 1100 that was quite the most awful colour. You know when you mix a tiny bit of black into yellow paint? It was like that. From K's colour charts, it was probably Chartreuse Yellow or Limeflower or Harvest Gold.

WC, have a play with NYCEwheels' Brompton color picker. If you're going for a new powdercoat for the Kaff, you can have just about anything. Or have a play with a complementary colourwheel, perhaps. How about a nice turkish blue to work with the brown trim?

I had the same dilema last week. I ordered a new Dolan Dual and asked what colour it was as there was only one frame in that size left. "Oh its blank" said the guy, "you can have whatever colour you like, free of charge".... Ahhh!!!!!

It's like, how much more beige could this be? And the answer is none. None more beige.

    YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE CHOICE!

I'm leaning towards a nice dark green, and somehow create a yellow contrast seat tube band myself (as well as design some decals myself for it).

Thing is, I DO like the colour scheme as it is as well - but it's starting to look REALLY tatty and annoying me.

Just renew the existing colour scheme.

I did a white band on the rescuedfromaskipbike using artist's self-adhesive vinyl sheet, cut very carefully to size with a scalpel. If you trim it just perfect, the join is imperceptable - particularly when faced into an area where the eye doesn't naturally get (such as between the tube and the mudguard).

It's very cheap stuff (£1 per A4 sheet), reasonably hard wearing and not so thick that it stands too proud of the frame. Passes muster on all but the closest of inspections.

You can buy the vinyl stuff which looks like wood, used for kitchen cupboards etc.. They might be a good look?

    @Davec "Black."

I think it was Henry B. Leylandmotorcorporation who once said "you can have it in any colour. So long as it's beige".

@WC - be careful following DaveC's advice on using household decor for the bike, you may end up hanging some nice curtains from the handlebars.
