Got them on the roady, they are more fiddly to fit than Crud let on and if your wheel isn't perfectly true you get some rubbing, doubt it's doing the tyre any real harm but the noise gets on my nerves.

Mudguards are not the issue with this likely lad whom I spotted at the lights outside Scottish Widows this morning. It was bad enought walking in the rain with a brolly let alone cycling with a brolly!

Cycling with a brolly is quite common in Europe, I have often see people doing it on the continent.

And Oxford/Cambridge. My favourite was always the people cycling in the snow with umbrellas. As Kim says, it is common, but I think unduly risky.

maybe if you cut the long handle off and just taped it with gaffer or duct tape to something that sits on top of your head, obviously such headgear would need to be held on with some form of straps to prevent the wind from removing it at the first opportunity...
I've done some research and figure one of these new fangled contraptions might do the trick(of course I jest)

pics 1. 4. 5. 6. in fact many of them the cyclist is not the one with the brolly or the brolly is not being held in the hands of the rider at the time(fixed to bike), they are merely pics with a brolly and a bike inyes I do think we need more colourful text on this site

Certainly agree with the need for mudguards for commuting; not all workplaces have a shower or even anywhere to change. Even have a pair of moto-x style ones on my MTB (but they fall off at Glentress..)
However, even the nice silver ones on my Pathfinder leave my feet splattered afer a few minutes on the WOLW and towpath. I have a pair of overshoes but they are a faf. Can the mudflap users (duct tape or otherwise) confirm the effectiveness of that approach on having clean-ish shoes on arrival at work, please?
My guess is they do keep the crud off the BB, cables and chain though.Posted 13 years ago # -

@Alibali, my SKS guards had a short mudflap on the front but my shoes still got spattered, I attacked an old milk carton (suitably washed) with scissors then used black duct tape to make a large and ugly extension to the mudflap. Much cleaner shoes now :-)
I now only worry when splashing through deep puddles, which, whilst they may be attacked with impunity whilst freewhweeling, still result in wet tootsies if you keep pedalling :-/Certainly a big improvement though...
