I'm not sure who owns it but don't think it can be M&S as they was complaining that Primark was being considered as a tenant.

Used to be owned by M&S and Safeway but I remember them buying Safeway out before the morrison's purchase.

So I did a little Research and it appears initially (using modern names) it was CEC/Morrisons/M&S with the stores being responsible for building their own shops and paying pepercorn rent. CEC was responsible for the rest including shared use of land. M&S then bought out the other parties before selling up a few years later to USS. USS then in turn sold to a company called Ellandi.
What I'm not clear on is whether M&S have managed to block the extension of the centre to include Primark. If so it appears to be on the grounds of loss of the shared amenity provided by the carpark rather than anything else. https://www.scotcourts.gov.uk/search-judgments/judgment

I have lost track of the latest update. However M&S were not happy with Primark being given a space in the centre. Scanning through it the judgement I linked to suggests that M&S may have a right to veto anything being built in the carpark. I expect they would/have use(d) that to stop Primark coming.
I should note that judgement is from 2016 so may not reflect the latest legal position. It is simply a hit I found while trying to ascertain ownership of the centre. I think the expansion was being discussed last year so presumably it is still going ahead with or without primark.

Interesting to notice from the scotcourts link a few posts above that (according to OED) the spelling of "judgment" in legal contexts (and in earlier times) is in fact thusly, and not just an Americanism. It still looks "wrong" and "clipped" to me, however!
(Oh, and it would be nice to do some offline socialising, too, so please add me to the list of pub-goers...)

Yes! Apparently the phenomenon of older pronunciations & usages surviving in colonial locations also happens with other languages - was reading that Quebecois preserves stuff that French in France has lost. I assume this might be true for all sorts of transplanted languages?

Modern Scots and modern English share roots in other languages, some extinct some not. @piosad will be along shortly to execute both of us for gross over-simplification.

"Chorey" comes from the French slang "chorer" (to steal).
As does "fash", "fâcher" (to get angry). Dinnae fash yersel.
"Steaming" comes from steam boats.

I saw a very good graphic of old English and Norse and old Welsh and the likes and the crossovers with the modern variants. Quite complicated.
Geordies use the word Bairn, in my defence, shake uses it too but thT is maybe in the Scottish play

to those asking about identification / how will I spot follow CCEers ??
i suspect we will stand out.
If not, just look for the table with a toddler running amok on/under/around/over/nearby. I am aiming to be there early for a quiet (as can be with a toddler) drink with Mrs McR.
Also, its fancy dress - don't forgot.
