    MINISTERS have been warned of legal issues around a radical plan to scrap Scottish Government-controlled vessel and harbour owners CMAL to form one ferry organisation.

    It has emerged that consultants EY (Ernst and Young), the authors of an analysis over the future of the beleaguered west coast ferry operation have confirmed in an evaluation that there were a "significant number of legal issues" that may prevent its delivery.

    He told The National that “considerable progress” had been made and that the target date for introducing the route – three return sailings per week from Rosyth to the French port of Dunkirk – remained May 2024.

    But those plans have now been scrapped, with ferry operator DFDS saying that May, or even summer 2024, is “no longer feasible” due to a lack of “commitment” from the Scottish and UK Government to back the route.

    “[This] makes our business case for the route less viable,” the Danish company added in an email to other stakeholders.

    Pretty sure that ferry route would be viable without government intervention if they had proper road tolls on UK motorways, just like they do in all civilised continental nations.

    Instead we give the road haulage industry a free planet-wrecking pass

    Wonder if Labour in Scotland will bring support for a direct EU route forward? Think it was Sarah Boyack that argued for original Rosyth link as the then A1 had too much traffic and Labour in 90s felt that goods should go by rail or directly by ship to Europe.
    Words 'climate change' and 'green' were not used much then. Just cost savings on road delays and accidents.

    Scotland of course already has a port to the EU at Cairnryan. This year they expect delays with labelling to reflect NI's EUUK unique status.

    Since last October, meat and dairy goods going to Northern Ireland from Great Britain have needed “not for EU” labels as part of the Windsor Framework of post-Brexit trade rules.

    You couldn't make it up!

    So, despite being delayed for years, nobody seems to have realised the seriousness of the situation and ensured the port was upgraded, which probably sums up perfectly the utter shambles of the whole exercise and highlights the utter complacency of Transport Scotland and ministers.

    Interesting that someone has spotted NOT FOR SALE IN EU on Sainsbury bacon pack - I suspect this is for stock which may be landing in the 6 Counties (75% of Ulster), or to assist checks on shipments

    I've also spotted the same Polish registerd tractor with a DFDS liveried reefer trailer, and operated by a Dutch haulier doing roadside transfers of what seems to be frozen chicken pieces to smaller vans just beside the M8 near Charing Cross

    We do live in interesting times

    A note that Kintyre Express (Owned by Colin Craig of West Coast Motors - now using Craigs of Campbeltown as their registered details for WC Motors & Glasgow Citybus - perhaps not Borders Buses/Perrymans though?) has 12 passenger RIB's available which operate a summer ferry service Islay/Campbeltown to Ballycastle but are also chartered for Troon-Campbeltown, which cuts journey from Glasgow down to around 2 hours

    Dunno about the bacon as we hardy ever buy it, but I've seen it on the labels of their packs of Drury Lane ham for a few months at least. I suspect you're correct about the reason behind it.

    My retired international freight forwarder contact, advises that this has been a requirement since October 2023 to deal with Schroedingers 'Province' (AKA 6 Counties/75% Ulster) where various produce might leak over the 'Border-Not a Border'/ 'Bipolar Border' or whatever might exist in perhaps the only place in the UK where you can pay for most things in £ or € and no one bats an eye....
