Registered for Bike Week again -

    http://www.bikeweek.org.uk/event_search.php?pagemode=display&event_id=1814

    300 riders last year.

AND last Fridays of the month too.

    Inc this Fri (26th).

If the corridor from King's Building is in your route to work, join in and marvel at the number of children and parents joining from the side roads all the way to the school (along the 'QBC')

Leave KB 8:20 arrive about 8:40

Splendid - but those kids are braver than me, I'll be on Lauder Road as usual, avoiding the horrible QBC!

    @cc

If you're at KB at 8:20 you'll be safe!

(Though unlikely to be quite this many)

Thanks. Interesting video. I look forward to the day when school classes going for a collective bicycle ride is just normal, rather than something that needs a police escort. But it's lovely to see nonetheless. Both inspiring (a hint of what could be) and illuminating (really shows up the deficiencies in the current infrastructure). And good fun!

    How did today's ride go?

It's tomorrow and there won't be a police escort.

    Fellow travellers welcome.

That's a huge turn out. Well done to all. Rewarded with some sunshine too.

if cycling was as concentrated as this then the QBC would need to be wider...

Do you think anyone was 'converted'?

Splendid! And thanks for the pictures and video.

I passed a number of children cycling home at lunchtime. One intrepid wee boy was bombing down Lauder Road but the rest were cycling at walking pace on the pavement beside walking parents or friends. Good to see them cycling though.

Cycle to School Day Friday 24th May
Last month we had 125 children and parents cycling from King's buildings to School.
Lets try and beat that number tomorrow. Weather may be chilly so wrap up!

Ride starts from King's Buildings at 8.20 sharp. Either join us at the start or feed in from the side streets as we cycle past.

ANYONE wanting to join in - especially bringing up the rear to discourage close passers - WELCOME.

Mum I know banned her kid (at Sciennes) from his bike for a week because he was playing tag with a friend and rode out into the road without looking.

His reply "Mum,, you can't, it's required".

I hope no solid lines were crossed going into the ASL box;-)

Looks like a great turn out and well beyond the ability of the present infrastructure to cope. Time for that route to be a mix of bikes, buses and access?

Children and parents from Sciennes will be using the QBC en masse again this morning - leaving KB at 8:20.

    Will include several CCEers.

It's getting bigger, I think? That looks like a lot more people than in the last video I saw a few months ago. Anyway - it's wonderful. Well done to everyone involved.

"That looks like a lot more people than in the last video I saw a few months ago"

    It fluctuates.

It started in June last year as an 'annual event' and was massive - about 150 people.

Then it became 'monthly' (apart from the darkest months).

One month this year had a low turnout (under 100) because rain was forecast (stopped about 8:00)

The videos can be deceptive as people join along the route.

Also the latest video shows them turning into Sciennes House Place - there was a, smaller, second group that had been caught at previous lights.

Sciennes has a lot of kids (about 600) - and lots of cycling parents - but there must be other schools that could get at least 10 at least once a month(?)

    Looks like fun too :)

Sciennes' catchment may make this sort of 'collector' ride more do-able.

School is certainly at one end of catchment. Many others are fairly central.

Around 60 people on the ride - it was still raining at 8:05, so that will have have put some people off.

Racks for 40, 72 locked up!

117 in total - on a coldish, wettish, day.

    Wow.
Send that to the politicians, with a note: "if this is what you want, give us the space to do it..."
