The same POLITE bibs some cyclists use combined with the same helmets that the police use makes walkers on the WoL think they have seen mounted police? Saw rider on the horse Murphy yesterday on woL path and deffo looked like gendarmerie avec cheval

Also article on the R4 news this am about this very thing (horse riders not bike riders)

Probably safer than the red(or black) jacket, not as smart mind you.
Can't blame them given many car drivers attitudes to other road users and apparent immunity from any serious punishment for assault or murder.

I think the horsey types started the trend.

It's not just car drivers attitudes to other road users that is severely lacking. This Sat morning I was cycling along Deanfoot road from West Linton to Penicuik which is a fave TT spot for various road clubs.

None of the cyclists I saw* slowed down for horses coming the other way along a narrow road which wouldn't fit 2 cars. Given the bikes were going at 50kph it was incredibly rude/presumptuous/dangerous.

*OK, I'll admit it was only a couple

Assistant chief constable Ron Hanson, the association’s head of mounted policing, wrote: ‘Anyone possessing these products is at risk of breaking the law, namely section 90 of the Police Act 1996.’

‘Anyone possessing these products is at risk of breaking the law, namely section 90 of the Police Act 1996.’

Translation: we're a bit miffed, but we'll do naff all about it because we can't be arsed policing the roads as it is.

"Police responded after motorists complained they were mistaking hobby riders, of which there are about 3million in Britain, for mounted police officers."

Why would motorists be bothered about that unless they themselves were also breaking the law??

  10. That's exactly the issue isn't it. By complaining about it motorists are saying "Well I'd slow down for a police horse because I know what I want to do is wrong, but since they're not the police they should be clearly not the police so that I can drive in the manner I want which, yes, I know is dangerous, but they're not the police so it's okay."

Or to put it another way, they don't want to be polite...
