Two bikes locked together should also stand up better than one bike, even with a stand, especially on grass.

The area set aside for bike parking should be big enough that the bikes can be parked in rows, so early comers can still get their bikes out. If people are a little disciplined about it, we should avoid the 'huge tangled heap' scenario that I know people are worried about

The reason behind all this was that the police were concerned about the capacity of the area immediately outside Parliament if everyone hung onto their bike, so they were talking about limiting numbers, which obviously would limit the impact of PoP. It seemed that a marshalled parking area was the lesser of two evils. I hope we can all make it work out

@cb.pola - no worries, I'm just getting a bit fraught, lack of sleep probably! I've made it more obvious on the website now, and thanks for your feedback.

I'm sure if I had an ebike I'd be worried too - but then again, if you're busy giving rides to people around the edges of the event, I'm sure you won't need to relinquish it to the parking police

I've often seen piles of road bike outside cafes locked together or just left when out riding around scotland. Stacked properly you can easily avoid scratches etc.

@chdot/sally: (a bit contentious but) I guess we should be grateful the police made us move it to Sunday? :P

    Not being contentious, but why?

Do you mean because there wouldn't have been closed roads on a Saturday?

Last year 247 people signed up to the facebook group, 3000 people went on the ride. This year 415 people have signed up on facebook (and counting), which means 5040 people will be on the ride :D

@chdot/SRD: Yep meant about the rain :)

minimoth just remembered we have a (crap) spare bike we could lend out - but I guess it would only be useful from the Harrison Gardens feeder ride (as we're too lazy to get it to the Meadows).

I'll cross-post it onto that facebook page.

I think SRD posted this but it probably have got lost in all the other stuff - someone has offered us his hedge to put a banner up right on the Drylaw / Queensferry path. The problem is we don't have a banner (next year!) so it would have to be a painted sheet or something like that. Anyway, it's a long shot but if anybody was up for putting up the biggest POP poster of all...

    Hi Guys,

Just wanted to add my pre-event word of thanks for all of the work that you've done. I wish I personally could do more of the ground work, but being on the right side (ahem) of Scotland, and being absolutely snowed under with work means that I limited in what I can do. The POP team are amazing, as are you guys.
Hope to see some of you tomorrow.....although I hope it is too busy to see you... :-)

Just followed chdot's link. Harrison Park looks good for me. Now, can someone organise this rain to stop?

Rosie, there's a group leaving 5 ways at 1.30, and then Greasemonkey leaving the little industrial estate off Russell road between 1.30 and 2pm. They may then connect up with the Harrison Park crew, who are aiming to leave at 2.15.
