"Surely, the real problem here – as on many other streets across Broughton and the New Town – is that there are simply too many vehicles in a city centre not designed for them (Issue 218, p.1). Until the Council grasps that bull by the horns, parking problems will be here to stay."

residents could back into end-on spaces, thus avoiding the danger to rear-seat passengers involved in reversing out

Not to mention other road users... but yes backing in would be better assuming other road users would give you the time and space!

I suspect the backing out comment is a reference to mobile creche users. If you have an adult in the back of the car they could actually check to see a bit. Children though are too busy eating or watching DVDs to be trusted ;-)

Anyway - Albany Street was one big car park last week when I went down there at around 10am.
Broughton St was the same - air quality so poor that the monitors had probably given up in disgust.
Around thirty people were sluggishly trying to get to York Place. I had time to go into a printer on Rodney St, collect a print job and pass the same vehicles that had only moved a few yards in ten minutes.
I don't think my ability to cycle faster would change anyone's car use though... I assume that anyone there had no other route to use.

When the Rodney street tunnel went in The Spurtle reported it as the last piece of the the NCN 75 being complete, linking Glaswegians to sunshine and civilisation. Their quote not mine
