Breakfast Bikeride 2013

(109 posts)

  1. Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

Frequently commute in that way in the mornings and it's a bit of a gauntlet run. Loads of tour buses and the like, and a few cars of people who realise they can actually go that way in the morning and don't want anything holding them up.

I'll bet if pedestrianisation were suggested the traders would complain about loss of trade. Some anyway. The vocal ones. Despite there being ono parking on the street, and presumably the money for the traders in the bit that DOES get closed see their takings increase when it's shut during the Fringe.

Made it to the Glasgow breakfast for the first time ever.

A guy asked me about Bromptons and probably regretted it. I might have too much useless information on that topic.

I warned the lady from Sustrans that I might not give her the answers she expected as according to the recent questionnaire I have no barriers.

Nice coffee and croissants but I'd prefer a potato scone on a roll.

Stick a fried egg on there for protein, vitamins and fat.

The memsahib likes the yolk runny but I think if it's on a roll you should nuke it so that the yolk doesn't squirt out, scald your fingers and besmirch your shirt.

double carbs? Our canteen's Friday "vegetarian special" is macaroni cheese with chips and garlic bread! (and a small salad garnish)

I had eggs for dinner today, with a truckload of vegetables and a good splosh of Lea & Perrins.

    Meanwhile this morning:

So does fanta (since you told me that, I taste no orange only fish)

Real foods does a vegetarian Worcester Sauce for those who are anti-anchovy

The van at queen Margaret drive in Glasgow where I first came across a roll on potato scone with possible additional egg, was not vegetarian, all items fried in same pan. After a few sherbets this did not seem to matter to me, I have been a very strict vegan type in the past but this is a pain in the ass. Heck the bleeding Guinness had fish in it too ( tho I can't taste that)

Fanta is OK now, they changed it, Lilt is still fishy.

Fanta was invented as a result of the third Reich of course…

That van was widely known as Salmonella Sam's when I was a nipper. Going to a collaborative learning course in Dalrymple hall today, it's just along Gt Western Rd. Apparently the coffee stinks so I might have to pick one up at the Police Box.

And I still don't quite get the phrase "roll on xxx" since it seems that the potato scone, sausage, egg etc is on the roll and not the other way round.

Hard to beat a potato scone fried up on a Trangia when out in the wilds.

    roll on xxx

think of it as roll en bacon. It prevents confusion in Greggs over which sort of "sausage roll" is being asked for.

    I'm more confused now.

    It's fairly straight forward.

    "Whityehaeinpal?""
"Un roll en saucison, sil vous plait Garçon, cheers pal, eh"

I've never used it as a whole word, either 'on' or 'in', just the en sound. A piece n jam or a roll n sausage. No vowel. In Greggs there would be no other way of reliably being served a morning roll with a sausage unless you asked for a roll n sausage.

Thanks for the awesome photo Arelicat! I feel like I recognise nearly everyone there!

(hey minimoth - it's kay over on the far left - I didn't actually meet him on the day! oops - did he ride in with you?)

Pardon my slow reply to the thread: I've been away from the interweb for the last few days.

I like Andrew Burn's blog post - and it reminded me of the campaign for the link to Drem - is there a CCE thread about it?

"is there a CCE thread about it?"

    You have to ask?...

I hoped the roll on would be picked up. A sausage roll is a distinct entity in greggs. Maybe it was roll and sausage? And became roll n sausage?
