I am aware that the number of 'hits' on this site has increased 20-30% (compared with the same day of previous weeks).

Presumably this is because of people searching for PoP (or cycling in Edinburgh generally) or come across @CyclingEdin.

CCE has evolved over the last three years into a fun, knowledgeable, helpful/supportive place for people who (mostly) cycle in and around Edinburgh.

There are 'members' who have cycled 'for ever' and some who, only a couple of years ago, were too inexperienced/scared to cycle on the road and now cycle to work.

Sometimes CCE may seem cliquey (or even geeky) but this is mostly due to the fact many CCEers have met in 'real life' and know some of the bikes they ride or places they work or interests they have.

Consequently there can be in-jokes and oblique references to things like 'people losing their glasses in the canal'...

    Don't be put off.

If you want to join in, just send an email to info@citycyclingedinburgh.info with your chosen user name.

You may care to contribute to "Are YOU new (or returning) to cycling?"

Or you may just prefer to continue lurking (that's not CCE offensiveness - 'we' avoid offensive [to each other at least] - it's just an Internet label!)

I'd add to this that I can't recommend highly enough plucking up the courage to join a Peter's Yard (PY) coffee meet up or a beer meeting if you at all can. It took me a good year to do so but I'm really glad I went for coffee and also got actively involved in PoP2 - it's helped me feel a little bit more part of this community in what can sometimes seem a really impersonal city.

"I can't recommend highly enough plucking up the courage to join a Peter's Yard (PY) coffee meet up"

Next one seems to be 31st - organised in standard/random CCE fashion!

(It's not always Friday - or PY)

Seems a shame not to reference against a thread so full of well-written woe and tragedy. If the glasses-in-the-canal reference caused confusion, I highly recommend:

    Uberuce down. In, technically

Also, if you've come here yet live in Glasgow, please stay! There's a number of us hanging around.

I think we should also add that some of us are also female too (including me!).

Now that I know you are women, can I ask how gender neutral you think this forum is? I think it is good compared to many other forums, but still a bit blokey, but I am not a woman.

"can I ask how gender neutral you think this forum is?"

I presume you mean 'balanced' - m/f ratio.

    Simple answer - don't know.

Inevitably (well it involves bikes + computers) a lot more m than f registered.

I have never tried to analyse whether that is 'un/balanced' by more/fewer f posts.

Generally speaking it's quality that matters.

    CCE scores highly there.

Should probably have given lionfish credit for thinking of that!
