That does give me a viable deadline for my vague stiff little fixie project...

Ubez: nobody here needs to be enlightened as to your stiff little fixie project, thanks!

WC: I've had bevvies tonight... Stop tempting competitive me!

MeepMeep says she's pretty quick on a bike, but I'm not so sure. If only there was some extinct volcanic way to put this assertion to the empirical test...

oooooh, is that why the name 'meepmeep'? thats the kind of name you have to live up too. (yes I'm happy to do a hundred miles by lying about all day having the occasional beer, hence the name)

I'd like to ride a bent from Laidback but I may just wait until he is less busy with the festival, as I could be taking someone elses place, who buys a bike. I'm interested in a bent try ride after following Dave round part of the Snow Roads.

    What have you started, Bruce?

I'm no pootler but I'm certainly not Speedy Gonzalez, judging from Strava! A certain "Suzy Super J" has me well and truly pegged...

Suzy Super J is the top lady CX cyclist in Scotland, I know she's got me pegged also!!

Is it just me looking at different versions of the same segment, or has the top ten for the Arthur's Seat climb gone weird?

@MeepMeep Suzy is QoM on pretty much every segment in and around Edinburgh. There's your challenge. ;)

@Uberuce The top ten looks okay to me, even if the real quality is bubbling under... :) However, there are a confusing number of segments on Arthur's Seat, each covering slightly different extents of the loop.

Ah yes, that is indeed my flummoxer. SuperSuzyJ has the exact time as me on the shorter version, but a full 15 seconds of scalping on the long, which I will theorise is because she was still powering on round the loch where as I was a coasting rasping mess.

Anyway, I've this afternoon off so I'll see about starting my training today, albiet on the dirty floppy fixie that's been all over town, rather than the stiff little new one, that being largely because I haven't even ordered the frameset yet.

Yeah - "Gate To Lake" stops at the first bush/bin by the top loch; whereas "Arthur's Seat Climb" goes to the second bunch of bushes just before the road curves to the left.

I thought it might be those landmarks.

Either amusingly, inevitably or infuriatingly, I set a PR and a 2nd on wee blue floofy today.

Fix fitness and geared fitness are slightly different animals, and given that I ride wee blue floofy almost every day it's inevitable I'll be biased towards the former. Amusing and irritating because I spent over a grand on that blimmin' new geared bike and I can't climb as well on it.

I think I'll order one of these very soon: http://www.dolan-bikes.com/Track%20FrameSets/Aluminium%20Track%20FrameSets/Track%20Champion%20FrameSet?product_id=628

Hmmm, I've never attempted to ride up the seat... could be interesting.

"I've never attempted to ride up the seat"

Fine really - just gets steeper exactly where you don't want it to!

*Looks at hardtail mountain bike with absurdly wide bars, absurdly low gearing and lockout forks

*Looks at 26" slick tyres currently residing on hack commuter

*Looks at SPD pedals currently attached to tourer

Hmm, I spy me a plan!
