Wheel building by machine

    An interesting piece on the rise of the machine. I remember getting a tour of the Dawes factory in the early 80's, they had a wheel building machine then but they only used it for their cheapest models. How times have changed ! Interesting that the same machine is used by so many brands.
    Given the time savings over handbuilt, I wonder if any bike shops have considered buying one of these in order to offer bespoke new builds or rim replacements.

    Me too.

    Think they were quite proud of the wheel machine.

    About the time that Dawes became part of a Dutch bike business and also started importing far-eastern mountain bike frames for their cheap ZED range.
