If you're coming from Morrison St - Bread St - West Port, is it legal to turn right up Lauriston St?

I started to do this today, then got confused by the no turn/no entry signs.

There is this no turns sign http://goo.gl/maps/Zf1M3

And then badly placed no entry signs that i think only apply to High Riggs, but which always confuse me.

I've always assumed that the no right turn sign appiled there for Lauriston street, mainly due to the angle of the right turn you'd have to make.

Right turns from Bread Street into either Lauriston Street or Lady Lawson St aren't legal manoeuvres.

You could however turn hard right from Bread St into East Fountainbridge, then left to cut through to High Riggs, and then right into Lauriston Street...but then you're as well to not bother with Bread St at all and just point your bike at Earl Grey St and Brougham Place (or anywhere else in the vicinity).

Thanks. was hoping that the 'no turns' didn't apply to cyclists. Otherwise quite tricky to find a quite way to Lauriston Place. Impossible, in fact, if option is earl Grey to Brougham - just what I was trying to avoid by going that way.

Guess I'll stick to getting off and walking across the street.

I usually go Morrison>Bread>Spittal>Lower Lady Lawson>West Port>Lauriston Street if I know in advance that I definitely want to go down Lauriston St, in order to avoid illegality. If I didn't plan in advance but find that traffic from West Port to the Grassmarket is bunged solid for more than one light sequence I'll dismount, walk to the kerb outside Sainbury then re-mount and head off west in order to escape up Lauriston St.

You could try Morrison Street > Earl Grey St > Lauriston Pl, which is the way I cycle to PY when I come in.

Or just get off and walk across the road, its only a few seconds???
