    Harlaw Hydro will replace the former micro-hydro installation with an updated micro hydroelectric scheme that utilises the outflow from Harlaw Reservoir.

    A 65kW hydro scheme will take water from the dam’s penstocks (reservoir dam outflows) at Harlaw Reservoir returning flow to the dam discharge channel prior to it forming Bavelaw Burn. The reconstructed turbine house will be located to the north east of the discharge channel at the foot of the Harlaw Reservoir dam replacing the disused building.

    The finance part of the scheme is closing on 28th of June so if you want some shares now is the time. The organisers have raised nearly all the £300K needed but still a little short so, as it says on poster acrossmfrommmy house now is your chance to buy a bit of green energy. Should you wish to invest

    I saw this on the cover of the Currie and Balerno News in April. I was entirely convinced it was an April Fool and was surprised to discover it was true.

    There have been other attempts to develop small hydro projects in Scotland but it seems to be quite difficult to get them past the various planning consent people.

    Think it took five years to get this one to the Stage it is at now, lot of hard work from the organisers.

    A bit of a hijack of an old thread but as the two are both small scale green energy schemes I thought I would post a link to http://www.edinburghsolar.coop./

    They are raising £1.4 million to put solar panels on the roof of primary schools around Edinburgh. They are getting close the goal but only have until the end of the week to get the rest so if anyone is interested take a look.
