I have a mountain bike I don't use. It used to have a full length rear mudguard and a rack on it. The other day I took them both off my MTB and managed to put the mudguard onto my boyfriend's town bike (I was very proud of myself). I'd like to put the rack on too, but there isn't an attachment point under the seat. It looks like this:
Can you get a widget that lets you attach a rack here? What is it called? Where would I got to ask stupid questions and get one? There's a rack attachment point on the back hub, just not under the seat - most odd.

Google P clips. TBC used to sell them, not sure if EBC still do?

Make sure you get reasonable quality ones - mine rusted away.

Less likely to rust than P-clips is a seatpost clamp with a pair of rack-eyelets. You don't need the seatpost clamp with that frame but one may still fit.

Stainless steel P-clips. Velo Orange make them. Make sure to put rubber (old inner tube) between them and the frame to prevent scratching.

P-Clips seem to have been the standard approach, however I've also seen some rack mounts more recently that mount to the brake fittings, including one that fits to the seatstay bridge (where the mudguard is mounted above).
This latter might have had only a single arm to the rack though - the seatpost clamps I've seen have also been single armed, so best suited to single panniers.

P-clips.
Thank you. I will investigate.
(This also assumes my boyfriend wants the rack on his bike...)Posted 11 years ago # -
Seatpost clamp looks like this:

and for good P-clips:

which look like the same kind as Velo Orange's:

Just pop the rack on and then point to the panniers and the shopping list and tell him not to forget the wine while you put your feet up!! :D
