The City of Edinburgh Council has boosted the number of inspectors in their Roadworks Support Team to six, with two new officials taking up their posts today.

The team currently carry out 13,000 inspections a year on sites where work is ongoing or has been completed by organisations such as water, gas, power and telecom firms.

Is this a bit like us keeping an eye on the weather. Doesn't matter how many of us watch it if we're powerless to actually "do something".

@CyclingEdin not sure that would be practicable as they need heavy equipment

Edinburgh set to crack down on shoddy road repairs

EDINBURGH is believed to be the first local authority area in Scotland to announce an inspection of every road-work site as part of a crackdown on utility firms which carry out shoddy repairs.

Transport chiefs aim to examine each of the 7,500 projects carried out by water, gas, power and telecom firms to prevent faults going undetected.

Firms will be made to do the work again if they are judged to be inadequate.
