Cav wins!

Is it bad to be secretly quite pleased that Sky doesn't seem to have pulled it together?
Posted 11 years ago # -
Bosenhagen beat Sagan so sky helped cav
Posted 11 years ago # -
I was certain Cav wasn't going to win because I'd listened to the 6 o'clock news and nary a mention. Clearly the Tour only *really* starts once Wimblebore is over

Well done to Cav, a great sprint at the end.

Like the thread title.
Sky have done what they needed to do, I think. I liked the way Boassen-Hagan cheekily used Cav as his lead-out man - at least I'm assuming that's what he did? He knew he wouldn't beat Cav in the sprint but used him for assistance in the race for second?Posted 11 years ago # -
@fimm, yep that is what edvald bosenhagen did. Whereas Sagan tried for the win but couldn't catch him. Cav tho reported to have bronchitis?

"Cav tho reported to have bronchitis?"
I think it has to be assumed that Cav was telling the truth when he said he'd been 'under the weather' for a few days - and on (legal) drugs.
'Hiding' this info was presumably deliberate and 'revealing' it when he had (more or less) recovered would (perhaps) have led to a degree of complacency/uncertainty in his rivals...

Yeah, Cav mentioned in an interview that they didn't want to reveal he was under the weather and have his opponents take advantage of that. Was on fire in the sprint yesterday though - as they pointed out on the highlights, it looked close until you got the aerial view...

Cav second at the intermediate sprint beghind Greipel, and two places ahead of Sagan, sot hte green jersey gets a teeny bit closer (loses 3 points to Greipel, but gains 4 on Sagan who is leading the totals).
A win today for Cav could see him top the standings, depending on where Sagan finishes.

Crikey - big crash in the peloton about 30 odd km out. Cav down, races back, almost on his own, to rejoin the peloton, bunny-hopping over a roundabout (the kerb presumably) to avoid a team car on his way.
Adrenaline will be sky high, but has he knackered himself getting back in???

Argh! Greipel wins!
Posted 11 years ago # -
1st stage win if memory serves?
Posted 11 years ago # -
Tink greipel has won four previous stages of TdF.

Veelers fault, should have got out of the way.
Hopefully the rumours of OPQS signing Renshaw are true, I'd expect him to sort out their currently shambolic lead out train.

He doesn't handle the interview very well.
I suspect he knew he was getting relegated before he got to the line. After the incident he appears to just sit up and not contest the sprint, even though he is still in it at that point.
It was just one of those things, but Veelers appears to have a mechanical (or pretends to, maybe to hold up Cav), he stops peddling and does that move his leg out and look down thing. Cav moves to avoid but not enough, and hits him. Then sits up knowing what he's done. If I were to attribute blame, I would put it on Cav, but it was just one of those things, nothing really in it.

Depends what you are blaming for.
Deliberate barge by Cav?
Infinite slowmo replays 'suggests' it was 'blatent'.
But it wasn't really slowmo.
Last few seconds of an adrenaline fuelled race for the line - that is his job after all - found someone, slowing down, in his way.
Certainly not in his interest to lose momentum by hitting something.
Mistake, yes. Deliberate, seems unlikely. Certainly couldn't have been planned.
I was just surprised at how 'easily' Veelers fell over.
Perhaps someone can do the dynamics/physics!

the highlights show last night suggested that veelers moved right, and that cav saw him coming and braced, which is why he didn't go down, while veelers didn't see it coming so went down.
or at any rate, that's what they suggested the race officials must have thought.

Deliberate barge by Cav?
No I don't think so, but he was the man behind, and lead out men generally stop peddling once they have done their lead out. So it can't be a complete surprise if you are following a lead out man, and he stops pedalling when he sees his man is in front?
I just think that because Cav is behind him, the onus is on Cav to avoid him, hence why I put him at *fault, it clearly wasn't deliberate though.
Certainly not in his interest to lose momentum by hitting something.
Certainly not in Veelers interest to lose skin, by going over like a footballer?
Again, I don't buy the notion that he fell over in front of 50 fast moving bikes just to spoil Cav's chances.*blame, maybe a strong term?

I was impressed that no one else rode straight into Veelers.

Fantastic last few k today, what a perfectly timed effort from Trentin. Nice to see another win for Cav's team.
Posted 11 years ago # -
Just noticed that OPQS has signed Petacchi to boost their lead outs through to the end of next year. 40 is the new 30.

Nice ride by Froome!
I find the TTs more nail biting than any other stage.
Posted 11 years ago # -
Three stages won already by him - incredible.
Posted 11 years ago # -
Good job Froome didn't come off today, I can just imagine the tweet he'd have got from Contador if he had.
Posted 11 years ago # -
Chapeau, Quintana !
Superb performance
: )

OPQS leadout outclassed once again by Argos, Cav never in contention. Hopefully different next year.
But looking forward to Froomedog on the podium.
