A cab with better visibility - that's a tiny welcome step.

Taking 6 axle juggernauts out of city centres? That might be a bit better for cyclists. A 44 tonne lorry driving over a cyclist is going to be lethal, whatever shape the cab is.

  3. Precisely. And for once I've going to agree with Dave on something - the amount of money being spent on making the view from the cab better - why not invest that in putting cameras around the truck to eliminate all blind spots, with the benefit that that can be retrofitted to existing lorries as well...

    coincidences:

I was blogging about related issues early this morning and saw the bbc story. http://deceasedcanine.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/things-i-dont-want-to-hear-politicians.html

And then, opened my papermail from the day before, to find a letter from the MEP I had contacted about the mega-trucks proposal, which certainly doesn't mention the redesign angle. and reiterates that member states can 'opt-out'. I think I shall have to email again with a link to the expert who says that it's basically inevitable that if they're allowed elsewhere, we'll eventually get them too.
