Meant to be a fun thread!
Ok so he got the title - very well done to him for defeating the naesayers!
Thanks to Andy there was less traffic on the road this pm so in his own way he's helped create a better cycling environment.
Went round high road in Holyrood a few times snd less cars maybe. This evening though people may be out after having imbibed.
Must admit I watched the last hour in the Argyle Arms. Perfect way to re-hydrate.

Andy Murray at Wimbledon - what does it mean for cycling?

There was a time when children could safely play tennis in the streets but gradually, as society became more dominated by cars, parents stopped their children playing tennis in the street and instead would drive them for miles to safe, off-road tennis "courts". All across the country there is a small minority of people who still tennis to work and tennis to the shops, in spite of the dangers, hoping that this is what will give the Government the kick up the pants it needs to realise that increased investment in reallocating road space to street tennis could bring about a fundamental change in Scotland, revitalising high streets and improving the health of the nation. Cyclists can go screw themselves.

I bet the CCEers could do some 'flash mob' tennis games in the street.
Would make a point... no?

@insto, ah I see what you did there. We did play tennis in the street as kids as well as cycle and Kerbsy as the cars left our scheme in the morning and did not come back until tea time
Chris Hoy there and of course brad cooper and Gerard butler who both looked very very wired.

What does it mean? All the lads who maybe might have been inspired by Chris Hoy et al, will forget about him (he's retired) and instead want to be the next Andy Murray.
Oh, fickle youth...

Perhaps the youth of today could safely cycle to the plentiful tennis courts on the Meadows, just as soon as all the lovely new bits of path around the park link up safely to the grander off-road network such as the canal, NEPN, Innocent, etc.

I noticed that the players can easily serve a ball at over 100 mph. A ball at that speed hitting your head could cause immense damage. I think some form of protective headwear should be created and made mandatory for all tennis players. It's for their own good!

Our son and his wee pal (7 year olds) said it was really boring, as they were desparate to play Pokemon on their DS's.........
However we have him signed up for tennis camp in a few weeks at the meadows - I can only hope it is more successful than last years washed out cricket camp.

Work to start on Leith Links Tennis Courts this month
Work on a new set of tennis courts for Leith Links is due to start on the 22nd of July.
The new tennis courts will not be built on the site of the previous tennis courts. Instead they will be built on three of the existing bowling greens. And as well as new tennis courts the project will also see the construction of two new Petanque ”pistes.”
