Well I know lots of you do it all the time with no difficulty but I took a fast road bike with skinny tyres from Balerno to waverley today and it was no fun. Surface of road shocking, amount of glass shocking, driving standards shocking. I was so shocked that tonight I went home through the park. Shocking number of people jogging on the cycle path when perfectly good pedestrian path and indeed my favoured running surface, grass on either side.

Nice new Tarmac on the shocking craiglockhart road.

Back to Schwalbe marathon plus and the WoL path tomorrow.

Shocked, but not surprised. That's why I have taken to commuting on my MTB (c/w sizeable Schwalbe M+ too). It's big and heavy, but it's comfortable and helps make the skinny-tyred weekend road runs feel that little bit easier. Glentress has nothing on Wester Coates eastbound...

Paris-Roubaix has nothing on some of Edinburgh's cobbled streets...

WoL path good today. Did have slight Mexican standoff on way home on the aqueduct. My aqueduct etiquette is that if I am over half way then I should have precedence but if I am under half way I cede. However, the person coming the other way, who had just come on to the cobbles had to cede to the guy in front. I came up close behind and their etiquette was wait for one, be allowed to pass the next one. Led to the stand off. I was on the outside and prevailed but no one in the right?

My aqueduct etiquette is to huddle up against the railings and create room for braver souls to pass me, then when it's all clear to resume my slow walk across. Used to cycle it when I was younger, don't dare now.

if windy or feeling peely wally or on skinny tyres or if it is busy or just for the hell of it I will get off and push bike across too. the sign does advise this. two folk pushing in opposite direction causes a jam in way one person leaning into railings but staying on bike and another cycling by doesn't
