Let me guess who they ("Global Infrastructure Partners") want to pay for it...

I'll help you out - it won't be from their own pockets.

Previous owners BAA were actively hostile to the rail link proposals.

Hmmm, also I wonder why Edinburgh Airport wants to see the UK Government sanction the expansion of Gatwick Airport (majority shareholder Global Infrastructure Partners).

So are the saying they want a road south to the M8? So close to Hermiston Gait? I would have thought a mega junction where Newbridge is linking with M8 and M9 would be more suitable? Instead they want a 3 lane highway through Greenbelt south of the airport to and from the M8 just off Hermiston Gait?

For those that haven't seen / heard of the plans, the land between Norton Farm (accessed off the airport figure-of-8 roundabout) and the A8 is set aside for development into some sort of major office / corporate HQ park, International Business Gateway or some such other silly name.

This all requires lots of new roads, of course, as it's much too far from the nearest tram stop (RBS).

David Murray's folk also have plans for the land to the west of the Bypass and there are the planned developments around the Gogar tram depot and west of Maybury. The rural feel of this edge of town could be set for a major concrete makeover.
