Connolly said he is keen to return again to watch the action at the 2014 Commonwealth Games next summer.

"I want to see the track cycling, I fancy this velodrome," he said. "I'd like a wee whirl round it myself.

He is a keen cyclist himself, drags his bike out every now and again in his Tour of wherever programmes that he used to do.

A very keen cyclist. Glasgow Couriers are among several who claim him as a former member. Regardless, he had a Flying Scot, so not a casual rider.

And 20 years ago he was quite surprised to see my Flying Scot MTB.

He was quite surprised to see me in cafe gandolfi fifteen years ago, but that was him mimicking my surprise at seeing him have lunch in Glasgow bistro, not sure why I should have been so surprised. He does pretend surprise very well

I'd be quite surprised to see me there. More Uni Café myself. Number 4 son was in there on Wednesday for ice cream. I had a breakfast.

Bill Bailley does surprise quite well.

Near Strathclyde uni when I was there at various points in the 90s it was Press Bar, Babbity Bowsters and occasional gandolfi. Much earlier at Glasgow uni the cafe in Ashton lane, now gone and if flush Uni cafe. Does owner still have full elvis wig?

Gino stopped wearing the syrup 10-12 years ago. He came back from Italy one August without it.

They no longer close for August or on a Tuesday. We got married on a Tuesday and I think the management planned that to stop me going to the cafe afterwards. We had pizza in Di Maggio's instead but I'd had my last meal in the cafe the night before.

The take away next door has been there for 22 years and I still think it's the new section.

Small as the cafe is Gino has never bothered about my Brompton under the table.

I never liked the Grosvenor Cafe much, too many art students who took the Smiths seriously, and I've not been to the new one across the road as I'm still annoyed about CAC closing the Salon. I know, CAC don't own the Grosvenor cinema anymore but a closed cinema blood feud runs deep. I like the Smiths I just think Morrisey has been having a big laugh for 30 years… yes 30 years.

Only been in Babitty Bowsters once and never been in Gandolfi. We tend to head for west end dives like the Downhill or the Smiddy where you can hear each other talking. Following that we may go to the Indian Orchard which does not have authentic Indian cuisine and nothing on the menu is pan fried or a medley but it's cheap and open late. We are old farts of course.
