OT - does anyone want some jam jars?

    I've been carefully collecting jam jars with lids for my parents to put their home-made jam in. They have now decided that they have enough jars. Would anyone like the jars I have before I put them in the recycling?

    Given the occasional debates on here about 'things you can't carry on a bike', and discussion about how you can carry a washing machine, I wonder if fimm's collection of jam jars is one of the things you really wouldn't want to carry on a bike.

    I don't need them (we have our own collection lined up awaiting their jam) but I do wonder: if I did need them, how would I get them home from fimm on the bike without smashing them all to pieces en route?

    Large, light, and fragile: the worst kind of thing to carry on a bike. Discuss...

    Not really fragile.

    Fine in courier bag or panniers.

    @chdot - may it's just the way I ride then. Stuff in my panniers seems to get shaken to bits quite regularly!

    "it's just the way I ride then"

    Perhaps...

    Pack tightly, maybe add newspaper, avoid potholes...

    I wrap especially fragile things in towels then stow in the courier bag while the lock stays in the pannier. If I have to get serious, then it'll have to go in the trailer with adequate padding.

    Have never managed to smash a jar or bottle yet on the way to the bottle bank, even over cobbles when they're wedged in panniers and/or courier bag

    There aren't many. I would probably put them in the front pannier of the Brompton with a bit of padding. Anything really fragile (laptop) I carry on my back. Fortunately I don't have to carry my laptop by bike very often.

    Now, does anyone want these jam jars?
    (I've already tried Freegle with zero response. I thought jam makers were always desperate for jars?)

    @fimm Roughly how many? There's a serial jam-manufacturer at work I'll ask...

    Nup, he's full.

    There's a serial jam-and-presever boiler on the forum, but they're on holiday. I'm sure they'd take your empty jars.

    @kaputnick ok, I will hang on to them for a bit longer. Thank you.
