Three speed sturmey archer road bike wheel £45 on Gumtree

    Want the fixie/single speed look with better practicality?

    for sale: good quality road bike wheel built around a three speed sturmey archer hub. Spokes & rim are new. Hub is in perfect condition. Tyre shows minimal wear.
    Includes lock nuts and shifter, mounts and cable etc. and a nice white tyre (panaracer pasela tour guard: 700x23)!
    I bought it for an unbuilt commuter bike. Cost £75, selling for £45.

    seems a decent price if its fits someones needs

    Caught my interest until I saw the 'orrible deep-dish white hipster rim with crow's foot spoke lacing.

    I have tht wheel on my hack but not the white trim. Helped me lug shopping up hill. On spesh crossroads which is too heavy, would prefer five speed but good folk on here say SA 5 spd not so good. There is a two spd that you kick to change the gear, bit extreme?

    Didn't Dave try the Sturmey 2-speed on the White Fright and find it unusable? Or was that some other manufacturer?

    Aye I saw that a couple of weeks back but also didn't fancy the rim/spokes combo.

    Pretty sure he tried and failed the 2-speed kickshift, yush.

    Sad fact seems to be that SA are one-hit wonders, and now that they've changed the AW3 from oilbath to greaser, it doesn't even have their legendary lifespan.

    That said, if the lifespan of the greased hub is longer than that of any conceivable rim, then it makes no real bones.
