I need to go to the Minor Injuries clinic @ the Western General tomorrow morning. There seems to be some cycle parking, according to openstreetmap, but not a lot. Does anyone know if this is all there is, and if so, whether there's a good likelihood of space being available?

And failing that, does anyone know of "alternative" locations to lock a bike down there?

Hmm. Lots of blue railings around the only road within the compound that the StreetViewmobile ventured down but I'm always wary of using railings around places where there might be lots of people needing to lean on them.

I need cycle parking at lunchtime at the Western in a couple of weeks' time so was going to trundle along sometime to locate a suitable spot beforehand; if I get there this evening I'll advise you of any useful structures.

My appointment letter says "car parking is a problem; therefore it would be advisable, if possible to come by public transport" but doesn't mention non-motorised vehicular approaches.

Last time I was there at lunch time the racks were pretty much completely full, took ages to find a place I could leave the bike in.

There are some racks at the "clock-tower" entrance, which aren't marked on your screenshot above.

That's the entrance with the mini roundabout just below where "hospital" is marked.

It seems likely that there may be other similar blocks of Sheffield stands that aren't marked, so it may be worth leaving time to find a spot, or to find your way from the rack to the MIU.

Fair few racks around the edge of the bit between outpatients/minor inhuries and the Anne Ferguson building. Can't add Flickr links via mobile since they banjoed the site but try flickr.com/photos/wingpig (mobile instances set) for six geotagged rack-pictures. Racks for ten-ish bikes and a few rails in the new-looking double-storey car park, too.

You'll almost certainly get parked at the main entrance (the blue square to the west of the title). There are about 20 Sheffield stands there.

There are others dotted around as wingpig notes. I tend to use car park 9 but there are others on the perimeter road.

Cheers all, sounds like I shouldn't have a problem. I even learnt how to navigate Flickr :)

And if you're up for it, update OSM after your visit. Adding bike parking is one of the easiest edits going!

TL;DR: plenty of spaces @ 8am this morning.

OSM updated with the cycle parking that I could see.

All the pictures below are wider than they appear here; if you want to see the full images, you'll either need to right-click and view the image in a separate tab, or if you use the CCE Feed utility, then you'll see them ok.

First of all, I came across about a dozen spaces before I got to the Anne Ferguson Building:

Then, I came across some more, but motorbikes were parked in them:

When I left, more motorbikes were in those spaces, and still no bicycles, so I figured that was specifically for motorbikes. Didn't see any signs, but I probably missed them.

Then, I came across a metal shed thing with loads of bikes in it:

That one was locked, so I assume it's for staff. Therefore, I didn't add it to OSM, as that would mislead the public into thinking it was available parking spaces, which it isn't.

Then up the back next to the Alexander Donald Building, loads o' spaces:

My bike's one of those. When I left, there was still masses of spaces.

So all in all, plenty of room, and this was only in the bit described above, which is one very small part of the hospital grounds. Whether it gets much busier later on, clearly I couldn't say. One would assume that around visiting hours, it gets a bit more usage.
