Coming along the back road out of Kirknewton quite a few road closed signs. Just before the quarry entrance there is an old bridge getting drains and road surface repaired. No cars getting through but bike can be carried across. Means the stretch of road is even more quiet than usual

I went along there this afternoon. Ravelrig Road. One of the worst road surfaces I've been on and a resurface of that whole section is *long* overdue.

We did relay the issue with ravelrig hill to the Buddster and they started at the top but ran out of money. Shame as road was closed for railway line being relaid. We came back up that way for a bit of a climb. My riding buddy remarked he Much preferred climbing up it than freewheeling down it

I went that way too last night on my ride home from work. The signs are saying that the bridge will be closed until mid Sept. As G says, out of hours of the work actually taking place you can carry a bike across at the moment, but there may be periods over the next few weeks when that won't be possible.

I was out this way the other day as I decided to go for a short ride in the evening. With the vague notion that somehow I could get through to the A70, I turned away from the Kirknewton direction and up towards the quarry. The road up to the quarry was fine and then I was able to go over a couple of gates and continue on a unsurfaced track round the side of Kaimes hill. The track then petered out but I could see the A70 and was unsure about the best way to get down to it. I foolishly ignored a small track leading downhill in favour of a more direct route and ended up carrying my bike through elbow-deep rushes in a boggy bit of rough ground. Thankfully, our dry summer meant I didn't get very wet. Looking at Google and OS maps, the track I ignored seems like it would have taken me back to the road. Will need to try it again and possibly include a climb to the top of Dalmahoy Hill as well.

Does anyone know what the sign means at the junction of Long Dalmahoy road, will the road be closed on those days listed to bikes or just cars?

@ed1, no idea but you can get off and carry on grass verge in extremis?
