Hi, don't know if anyone else is seeing it but I'm getting an error with roughly 50% of my page views on the site at the moment. Error text as follows. Usually means the web services on the server could use a restart, in my experience.

    500 Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@localhost and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

One other techie mention - Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 throws an error with every CCE page view, which requires a click to dismiss. It seems to classify the Amazon link in the sidebar as a phishing URL. This seems to crop up occasionally and is probably unique to Kaspersky..they will probably reclassify it again at some point.

Ah so it's not just me. Main page seems to be okay, error pops up with individual threads.

Has your host been messing with their version of PHP?

    This sort of thing?

Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /web2/user20418/website/bbpress/bb-settings.php on line 186

Strict Standards: Redefining already defined constructor for class BPDB in /web2/user20418/website/bbpress/bb-includes/backpress/class.bpdb.php on line 183

Strict Standards: Declaration of BB_Walker_Blank::start_lvl() should be compatible with BB_Walker::start_lvl($output) in /web2/user20418/website/bbpress/bb-includes/class.bb-walker.php on line 148

Strict Standards: Declaration of BB_Walker_Blank::end_lvl() should be compatible with BB_Walker::end_lvl($output) in /web2/user20418/website/bbpress/bb-includes/class.bb-walker.php on line 148

I'm never sure whether I get errors like this because the work version of IE is ancient...

Lots of error messages today for me, using IE10 (at work so sometimes our IT don't let various things work as the makers intend)

Yeah I think its server side. One minute it was fine, the next it was a 500 error and when it came back it was like this.

Either fixed or intermittent. I saw it about lunchtime 1pm but it's gone by 2.30. Yes, looks like server-side PHP configuration monkeying.

Probably still broken, they've probably just switched off debugging. ;)

    Ah, php:

    http://eev.ee/blog/2012/04/09/php-a-fractal-of-bad-design/

I can’t even say what’s wrong with PHP, because— okay. Imagine you have uh, a toolbox. A set of tools. Looks okay, standard stuff in there.

You pull out a screwdriver, and you see it’s one of those weird tri-headed things. Okay, well, that’s not very useful to you, but you guess it comes in handy sometimes.

You pull out the hammer, but to your dismay, it has the claw part on both sides. Still serviceable though, I mean, you can hit nails with the middle of the head holding it sideways.

You pull out the pliers, but they don’t have those serrated surfaces; it’s flat and smooth. That’s less useful, but it still turns bolts well enough, so whatever.

And on you go. Everything in the box is kind of weird and quirky, but maybe not enough to make it completely worthless. And there’s no clear problem with the set as a whole; it still has all the tools.

Now imagine you meet millions of carpenters using this toolbox who tell you “well hey what’s the problem with these tools? They’re all I’ve ever used and they work fine!” And the carpenters show you the houses they’ve built, where every room is a pentagon and the roof is upside-down. And you knock on the front door and it just collapses inwards and they all yell at you for breaking their door.

    That’s what’s wrong with PHP.

I would like to inform you that we are in the process of up grading over version of PHP from 5.2.17 to 5.5.17.

This upgrade will be taking place within the next 24 hours and I would also like to take this opportunity to apologise for the short notice period.

Don't know about anyone else, but looked to me like CCE experienced a DDoS for a few hours there.

Looks like chdot will have to invest his massive profits from the Amazon affiliate into a better host :D
