Now the Nexus 8 I do not like, but the 7 is not so bad.

The Trek L-300 Town Bike has Nexus7
I took a tall colleague who was looking for a second hand bike to a shop nearby. They threw a curve ball of a fine looking Trek Sit Up and Beg hub geared hybrid with dyno lights incorporated and hub brakes, rack and marathon tyres. Size Xl which is his size.

colleague had uper limit of £200. Looked like alot of bike for that money. No need to buy anything else.

THe shop wanted a bit more than that. But I have seen it on e-bay for way more and Camden Town bikes for £280 [though this was the newer one]

Does anyone have an opinion, which you will see I am hoping to restrict mostly to the cost. I cannot find the actual model on internet sorry. Looks like there was an update in 2005 to Nexus 8 (a mistake in my book) and better dynamo light on the front. The one on the older bike went up over the wheel in a U bend fashion that was a bit weird.

My colleague liked the bike. It has a lot that could go wrong that would cost a fair bit to fix but then the idea is that not much wouldgo wrong. Chap in shop said three month warranty on all bikes and that if anything was going to go wrong it was likely to happen sooner rather than later. I was a bit scepitcal on that particlar pitch but on the whole a very good salesperson and a nice way to spend lunch hour.

Note - The Bike Station has the students back in town so they are sorting the bikes, putting them out and flogging them very rapidly at the moment. Told me to phone about now in the day to check what mechanics had ready. Remember colleague is six three.

I think a colleague has one of these. I'll check the model when I'm downstairs next and see if he has an opinion to offer.

If you google trek nexus 7 you do get an inordinate amount of websites related to the science fiction programme Star Trek, it is true

I am scared of nexus 8 as almost true fact the (di) lithium (crystal) grease turns to consommé if water ingress occurs. nexus 7 used a thicker grease. The nexus 8 had a big jump twixt 4 and 5 which was often where the gears became kapupt. Not sure how the seven is configured. Alleged range of about 300. So ok. Rohloff of course have the massive range of 500+ for anyone going around the world.

The Nexus is where you might find Captain Kirk. He came back to help Picard but it's not clear what happened to the Kirk in the Nexus. Guinan appeared to be there and here.

Nexus 6 was a Tyrell Corp replicant. They aren't allowed on Earth and are retired by Blade Runners.

All those... moments... will be lost in time, like tears... in... rain. Time... to die..

Ah another favourite and I know the words pot kettle and black can now be used but it was exactly this sort of thread drift I was trying to avoid. Down With This Sort Of Thing.

So cutting back to the chase

Is it worth more than £200. Must have been an expensive bike in its day but it is maybe nine years old. It is Dutch style but not black. Fussy dynamo light t front. Marathon tyres not too bald. Heavy mother. Nexus 7 so maybe OK. These old Dutch bikes last forever? Will trek reinvention do the same. Come on kaputnik descend the stairs and ask the guy.
