  1. Good news for Edinburgh Park cyclists ! I've had confirmation from Edinburgh Trams via the Edinburgh West Team that the yet-to-be-built cycle crossing over the tram tracks on Bankhead Drive (opposite the end of Cutlins Rd) should be completed by the end of the month.

This means they closed-off cyclepath will reopen and we'll no longer have to divert up to Ed Park Station and back down again to get to the underpass.

by the end of the month

so it should be opening some time mid-2015 then?

It is good news, if it hadn't been blocked like that for must be 2 years + now

Excellent - although that extra 200 yards twice a day must equate to some extra fitness for us over the years ?

I will not miss having to negotiate the krispy kreme addicts slumped opposite hermiston gait sooking on their half gallon of coke (surely part of the Scottish 5 a day, along with doughnuts, pie suppers, Haribo and valium?).

  4. Never mind - there's still the fun of the kamikaze bunnies between the underpass and work to enjoy!

Sloooowwwwllllly getting there. Almost made the mistake of turning across it on Friday as it looked finished. But there's still large gaps.

Yep, blocks at each side still to be laid - presume these are the ones they will lay in concrete?

The rubberised surface looks good though, so hopefully a quick squint each way and scoot across confidently.

Bit concerned that the crossing at Makro might be a 2 phase affair?

Looks that way, yes. Although I see they're re-digging around where the cabinets block the path, so I assume they still don't know what they're doing with it.

TFL and K (and any other interested parties) the crossing is now......complete.

I saved approx 90 seconds on my commute this morning - win !

It was busy too - as I descended to the underpass, a cyclist from Herm Gait / Krispy Kreme direction was coming from my left - all fine, but as both of us converged at the bottom, another cyclist came toward us from the direction of Edinburgh Park - no harm done, all of us had decent lights etc.

Must be a symptom of the new 'trendiness' of cycling - last time the underpass was open I could go days without seeing anyone on 2 wheels !!

    Ah, the good/bad old days

  10. Excellent! I shall be trying it out for the first time tomorrow :-) That must be almost three years since that part of the path was blocked off for the tramworks.

I too remember the 'old days' when I started cycling 7 years ago and would rarely see another cyclist on my route to/from work. How things have changed for the better in the intervening years!
