'The 19-year-old female driver of the car was uninjured'
A wee bit gratuitous, IMO.
EDIT
'At around 9.30pm, the car turned into Dalrymple Loan and collided with a cyclist'
My word, it's Herbie.

There's a tweet this morning from (Olympic sprinter) Craig Maclean identifying the victim as Musselburgh Roads' stalwart Andy Laing. Notes that he's in hospital but doesn't add anything further about his condition. Friday evening is the Musselburgh club night, I wonder if he was riding back from that.

I do hope he recovers quickly and completely

"I do hope he recovers quickly and completely"
+1
Fit cyclists generally recover better than the general population.
Speculation is pointless, but it's a car rather than an HGV, urban side road, after dark.
I have decided to put rest of this post in a new more appropriate thread.

From Facebook;
"in a stable condition and under sedation"

speculation, but my assumption would be car cutting accross cyclists path to turn right

I hope he will recover.
Here's the junction: http://goo.gl/maps/9uKEU
Doesn't look particularly cyclist friendly, despite the presence of an ASL. I note in Streetview there is a cyclist on the pavement waiting to get across Dalrymple Loan. May not mean anything but I often notice more of this type of cycling around busy and/or hazardous junctions.

@custard, that would be my assumption as well. The junction has been redeveloped since that Streetview image was taken with new pedestrian barriers and pelican buttons.

No more news - just curiously late for ENews to catch up.

Looks like they got the headline wrong in another article: it was a Corsa or somesuch, not a lorry driven by a 19yo, tsk.
