    Another possible factor -

Environmental conditions like temperature and variations in amperage during charge and discharge can significantly alter the useable capacity of a cell

@Frenchy, I almost said "this year"

That wouldn't have been true either, assuming we're adopting the current Western era's widely accepted definition of when the calendar year starts and ends.

Very cold coming back along Marine Esplanade last night, but that was after standing still outside for forty minutes. Frozen puddles at the bottom of the Chancelot Mills slope this morning but feels a bit warmer.

The park at south gyle is such a cold sink I avoid it in the winter. Going over the railway bridge you can see the mist sitting on the ground and I'm glad I did.

Despite the frostiness, there was no sign of gritting salt deployed at Heriot-Watt Campus this morning. Admittedly, it does seem to have been one of the rare occasions when the temperature warmed up as I cycled west from the city.

For the first time this year* the cat spent the night indoors. Be comin' a great freeze I do reckon.

Another portent of an imminent freeze: HankChief was in long sleeves when I passed him this morning.

The thought that our cat and HankChief's jersey might be psychically linked is enormously pleasing.

"We could publish a CCE Almanac"

    Weirdly tempting!

Just needed to tweak it a bit, but the Wikipedia definition of an almanac has legs for CCE purposes:

"weather forecasts, forum member long sleeve jersey donning dates, ride enjoyment tables, and other (sometime surreal) tabular data often arranged according to the calendar. Celestial figures (naming no names) and various statistics are found in almanacs, such as the rising and setting times of the Kingsknowe Rat and Canal Kingfisher, dates of PY and not-PY, hours of rubbish and non-rubbish driving, and religious festivals (PoP)."

Plus some Useful & Interesting Facts.

    Yes (please)

The almanac idea is old and occasionally revived/updated.

    Always liked this version -

Should contain predictions, will be snowing tomorrow meaning a cold winter and the wheel with the studded tyre that has sat forlornly in my garage for many years will be put into operation.

Tips - deflate tyres a little in if conditions. Try also yo avoid braking by cycling more sedately

    looking mild tue onwards.
had to drive in today anyway, but no ice scratching on the car, usually i see rear flashing lights on the FRB into work, but nothing today EXCEPT
1 rider riding down the A90 - fully lit etc (wearing all black from what i can make out) , but the A90!!! blimey, i think i would avoid that at all costs.

There was a small amount of ice on the canal towpath this morning but nothing that couldn't be avoided. Heriot-Watt Campus was very heavily gritted this morning. Hopefully it will be removed by the rain that is forecast for tonight.

My hands were warm this morning for the first time in weeks. I was given an early christmas present on the weekend - some of the Gore windstopper thermo gloves. lovely.

    Posted 6 years ago #
  25. @SRD: Which gloves? I'm always on the lookout for better gloves as mine all still leave my fingers tingling for the first 20 minutes of a ride.

    I was given these https://www.rei.com/product/120344/gore-bike-wear-universal-gore-windstopper-thermo-bike-gloves

which I think are the same (or clkose to) these https://www.edinburghbicycle.com/gore-universal-lady-gtx-thermo-gloves.html

although mine don't claim to be waterproof. we'll see how they are when the rain/snow/sleet comes. right now they are toasty.

which I saw promoted on one road.cc or somewhere like that.

as this being my first Edinburgh region winter...i am assuming not much chance of Snowy weather around the City?

    Posted 6 years ago #
  29. chdot

    Generally no.

Usually 2 or 3 days where snow lies for a few hours.

However there was THE Winter when CCEers cycled ON the canal.

    "

Forecasters are predicting a few centimetres of snow for the region just north of Glasgow and Edinburgh, and warn it could affect roads and transport services during Monday morning rush hour.
