CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

the programme has improved slightly from the last time I looked when it was all male govt bods in suits.
now with added jon snow, alison johnstone and susan swarbrick
unfortunately, they're not asking for submissions. i'd LOVE to submit something. just registration. and £45 for the privilege.
Looks like self-congratulatory, back-slapping fluff to me (DdF excepted).
Odd that they chose the little known (no disrespect) GoBike (Strathclyde) and ByCycle (Perth and Kinross)to host a "round table" on cycle campaigning - would be interesting to know how these guys were chosen and whether SPOKES or PoP were offered the chance to appear.
Can confirm that no one from Pop was invited.
Some good (and some not so good) speakers.
However, I hope there's a strong message that cycling infrastructure improvements are part of a wider piece about improving the public realm for everyone's benefit, and it's not a mercantalist model where if "cyclists" gain something everyone else loses something.

Well we can't have the "extremists" spoiling the party, can we? Trebles all round!
Oops! Who on earth invited the Green party? What? They co-convene the cross party group in parliament? Isn't that nice Jim Eadie available? We're a bit short on women speakers, are we? Oh well, I suppose it's alright then, if we must...

Commuters ‘priority for boosting Scots cyclists’

Also in attendance was Transport Minister Keith Brown, who said: "Cycling is firmly on this Scottish Government's agenda and investment is at a record high.
"However, I believe we can and must all do more. Over the past year I have had numerous meetings with key stakeholders to discuss what interventions will move us forward on cycling.
"Community links and safe routes to school, as well as education and training, are vital if we are to realise our shared 10% vision for cycling and for a healthier nation."
Mr Brown said he wanted local authorities to be ambitious, bold and innovative in their approaches to cycling, "to come up with exemplar projects which can really make a difference".

How it could have been http://www.cycling-embassy.org.uk/blog/2013/11/09/when-newcastle-went-dutch-for-a-day
- We need to stop talking just about 'cycling' and start talking about quality of life
"We need to stop talking just about 'cycling' and start talking about quality of life"
Yep.
Though "quality of life" isn't quite the right term.
(Don't know what is.)
For some people having a car/driving is part of their quality of life - esp when comparing the alternative (no transport/mobility).
Even for people wanting to cycle improved 'quality of life' isn't really on the horizon under present (and apparent future) circumstances.
I wasn't at yesterday's conference, so I only have media (Twitter, Scotsman, GH) versions so far.
On the face of it KB said a lot of 'the right things' but is deluded (or just devious) if he thinks LAs will do what's necessary - even the ones (inc CEC) that are doing some good stuff.
More money and a counter to the car culture are what is required. BUT.
"
Keith Brown MSP, Minister for Transport and Veterans, The Scottish Government talked much about partnership working and progress across Scotland. He promised that in 2014 he will attempt to cycle the whole 50 miles of Pedal for Scotland from Edinburgh to Glasgow. He told us that investment in cycling is at a Scottish high. He outlined the updates in the Cycle Action Plan for Scotland (2013), commended the Annual Cycling Summit. He explained that transport infrastructure in Scotland lags behind for road transport and cars. He outlined the necessity for the continual big projects such as the New Forth Crossing, and A9 dualling to maintain and upkeep transport infrastructure. He was planning a vision for active travel.
"
Andrew Gilligan also noted that big problem in London is growing peak demand for travel and it is faster & cheaper to satisfy that growth with cycling as mode, than build a bigger station/longer train/run more buses, which will only be needed for a very short amount of time on a weekday.
Barclays bikes have 'revenue' consideration from the reduced cost pof having to provide more space on stations and train capacity - basically a cheaper way to remove the straw that breaks the camel's back for the Tube & Bus networks at peak times.
KB and pretty much most of the establishment don't seem to have made that connection. There are many in their 20's & 30's who have made a clear decision not to bother with learning to drive, let alone aspire to owning a car, they are slowly being joined by institutions where the actual cost savings from not providing for the car are so massive that it becomes a no-brainer to give discounted or free use of buses, bikes and other modes of transport.

"don't seem to have made that connection"
Except that PT capacity isn't as stretched anywhere in Scotland the way it is in London.
Once upon a time there was a notion that restricting 'demand' for travel was a good idea.
"Keith Brown MSP, ... promised that in 2014 he will attempt to cycle the whole 50 miles of Pedal for Scotland from Edinburgh to Glasgow."
He might want to try it in the opposite direction, otherwise he might find himself a bit lonely!
