So - have I understood this right - Police Scotland (in Glasgow) is giving people free bike security marking while at the same time Police Scotland (in Edinburgh) has now stopped selling people low cost bike security marking?

I've just checked the current police advice and there's no mention of registering a bicycle to help prevent theft. It recommends registering a bicycle after it's been stolen.

Police Scotland Lothian were doing this bike marking at bike breakfast in June. I had mine done but the second stage on-line didn't work, possibly my email address not written clearly, bad pen, I had my gloves on etc. does have a sticker on it saying it is bike marked tho.

I had my bike stolen in the hot spot communal Hillhead stair in 1985. Had lent it to a vet student I was enamoured of and she left it unlocked in the stairwell. I loved that bike, Dawes five speed

I got the train to Edinburgh yesterday and left a brown Raleigh 20 at Airdrie station. It was still there when I got back. The lock was probably worth more but the bike does the jobs fine.

I've left my beater with a "lock" which is probably less secure than a wire clothes hanger. Not worth anyone's while nicking it!
