Would you class your workplace as a "cycle friendly employer"? Or would you like it to become more cycle friendly?

Why not consider pointing the powers that be towards Cycling Scotland's Cycle Friendly Employer Award: http://www.cyclingscotland.org/our-projects/award-schemes/cycle-friendly-employer/

It's easy to take part, with only 11 assessment questions, and completely free.

Register online here http://cyclingscotland.msol.org.uk/local/cfe/index.php or contact wendy@thebikestation.org.uk for further information.

I would love to. I few weeks back I got my front wheel nicked outside work. I went to senior management to ask about providing a safe place for us to lock our bikes (we have a high percentage cycling in the summer). She thought the idea was hilarious & told me if I wanted that I should go to the council. Now they have stopped offering the bike to work scheme. *bangs head against wall*

We have a bike to work scheme, but the changes in tax relief don't make it particularly appealing (amounts to 0% interest loan, which you can get from most retailers).

But we do have showers and off-road lockups at one of our locations and (get ready for this!) in-door parking at the other! It's a weight-off knowing that I don't need to remove all my lights, etc, from the bike or worry about it rusting away :-)

now that I think of it my employer isn't too bad, covered, well lit bike parking, lots of steel hoops, showers, and larger lockers for cyclists and motor cyclists.and cycle to work.

Skotl and Splitshift - you should encourage your employers to go for the award! Indoor parking and the provision of lockers are pretty good going!

MrTea - oh no, sorry to hear that. Cycling Scotland offer a £1000 grant available to any workplace that is registered on the Cycle Friendly Employer Award website (so you don't have to have the award to access to the grant) that can be used for cycle parking. Might be worth letting your senior management know to see if that might change their mind. Part of the Award criteria is having a cycle to work scheme in place, so it might also help get that reinstated. Here's a PDF all about the award, including information about the grant: http://www.cyclingscotland.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/2011-10-CFE-Pack-Revised-v1.2-compressed.pdf

We had Wendy (same one??) in our office in Mulltrees Walk to assess for this award, and on Monday she presented us with our Certificate.

Thanks Wendy - not sure if you still frequent this place.
