Cyclist down at the lights just outside the Old College. Ambulance took an eternity to arrive but the Edinburgh public had rallied to his assistance with a blanket and first aid. He looked like he was returning from the Saturday morning cycle via the RCP. Folk at the scene said he had hit a temporary road sign. A car was stationary at the lights but they were the ones who called the emergency services.

~Possible scenario was that while overtaking on the South bridges Kim was confronted with the temporary road signs and while braking went head over the handlebars..which knocked him out for 3 hours or so, broke teeth, sliced lip requiring stitches, a brain scan..all this after doing a fast paced 45 mile club ride.

His helmet was smashed and probably saved a much worse outcome. People on the scene provided a blanket and help until a long awaited ambulance showed up.

    Kim is recovering.
Take care out there everyone !

The other option is that the council had dumped a roadworks sign in the cycle lane. They like doing that sort of thing.

I know you're half joking, Kappers, but Mr MeepMeep came a cropper and separated his shoulder after a roadworks sign had blown over in the middle of the night at Haymarket and he rode into it.

It was face down on the ground and he didn't see it for that autumnal low sun, cycled in between the metal legs before he realised. When his front wheel hit one of the supports between the legs he went A over T and landed on his shoulder.

The workmen waiting to start their day doing tramworks stood and laughed at him, apparently.

Wishing Kim a full and speedy recovery. Sounds a nasty one - 3 hours is a helluva long time to be out cold.

    No, I wish I was.

I've moved all-too many out of cycle lanes in the past. I don't aprpeciate the irony of the "road narrows" signs being plonked into the cycle lane.

would be interesting to know if any of the kind people who helped Kim after his crash noticed any signs nearby. I like everyone else am sure have had to swerve round signs for car drivers on the cycle path.
