Looks like a quiet road in the middle of nowhere. :(

I have cycled this road many many times. It is wide, quiet, fairly straight and with a good surface. No reason for this to happen at all.

The road was closed at the Dandaleith junction to allow for investigation work.

Its the back road out of Grantown on the opposite side of the Spey to the A95 and part of the NCN for much of its route. In places you can drop down and ride the former rail line, which I've done on the Brompton.

Some bits of the road present blind corners and summits but generally good visibility. At the North end, the regular trips by large trucks to service the distilleries presents a rather daunting prospect when you meet one on the single track roads to the sites, all previously linked to the railway and with their respective halts.

Been said before but people do not drive on these country roads expecting a cyclist to be round the next corner. The fact that the road is part of the NCN is often not even considered.

    Very sad news.

    Terrible news.

I cycled this road recently on the Forres Foray audax. It's a perfect cycling road, quiet with a good surface. Almost deserted when I was there. That said what traffic there was moved at some speed.

The issue with rural roads like this is that the local drivers often tank along them. They know the road well and get confortable driving at faster and faster speeds.

On the subject of deaths on rural roads... (and driving while disqualified).

A 26-year-old man who hit and killed a cyclist in West Sussex has been jailed for driving while banned and having no insurance...Police said inquiries were continuing in connection with allegations against Kirk of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at a road collision, failing to report an accident, driving while being under the influence of drugs and causing a death while driving an unlicensed, uninsured car while being disqualified.

  10. Knew the girl and her older sister many years ago, and was a guest at her sister's wedding. Sadly we drifted out of contact and I don't think now would be the appropriate time to send a Facebook Friend request in order to make contact and express my condolences.

RIP Sally and condolences to Frances and the rest of the Low family.

How the Dutch try to stop this kind of thing from happening:
