Very nearly a Darwin Award for this one. What a loon.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 16years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

I rather like how, after almost being in too much of a hurry to live, she then decides not to even go that way after all.
Just to arm yourself against the inevitable "level crossings don't apply to cyclists" bull that you encounter at som e point today here is a decent stat.
5 cars hit by trains at level crossings in 2012-13 resulting in fatality. (10 year average is 13 car-train incidents a year)
"I rather like how, after almost being in too much of a hurry to live, she then decides not to even go that way after all."
I think she probably scooted off to the side to throw up...
Good grief!
There should be traffic lights on the approach to all level crossings with screens playing that video before anyone gets to it. But then an idiot like that would probably ignore the lights too...
Mental. I'm guessing from the fact that she hoves into view in the wrong lane that she has been coming up the outside of a line of stationary traffic. That *may* have made her oblivious to the barrier - it certainly allowed her to go past it without having to deviate.
This all confirms that the hood-up approach to greater awareness is rarely a good move...
Loved the way she mopped her brow indicating Phew, that was close
I was under the impression that the Zeitgeist of this forum was that faster, bigger traffic should exercise care and give way to vulnerable road users like cyclists? IGMC
@stiltskin, nice point but we are not ecstatic about RLJing, of which this is a good example of what could go wrong
Hmm I wonder how many near misses like this happen to car drivers every year? Somehow they don't make it onto the news though. Not enough entertainment factor, clearly.
Network Rail periodically publicises the problem and videos such as these get shown on TV -
Good for Network Rail. Somehow all these videos have not made it onto the Beeb, nor become internet memes. Funny that.
"videos have not made it onto the Beeb"
Maybe not those particular ones, but they certainly do in connection with 'local' issues -
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/3498427.stm
NR certainly publicises the videos -
Perhaps it's to do with what is deemed 'newsworthy'. Driver dies at level crossing, it's in the media of course. Driver has near miss, an everyday occurrence, not newsworthy. Pedestrian you say? Two a penny, don't call us, we'll call you. Cyclist has near miss, that's unusual, hold the front page, let's give it some airtime, etc. ad nauseam. Plus a good opportunity to point at the screen and have a laugh at the stupid (female) cyclist. Ho ho ho.
