We are having a rare conference in Edinburgh. The conference is free. On Friday we invite outside groups to meet us, On Saturday we show what has been going on with our community and on Sunday we have a hack day.

    The details are here

    http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/State_of_the_Map_Scotland_2013

I hope that you can attend

Openstreetmap.org is a project similar to Wikipedia except we are making maps of the world. We do this by tracing satellite imagery and getting people to identify places. Anyone can edit the map. You can see our map here

    http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/55.94890/-3.19043

Since it is made from free data we can render it in different ways, like this cycle map

    http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/55.94890/-3.19043&layers=C

    Or a transport map

    http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/55.94890/-3.19043&layers=T

We have been around for about 8 years and have about 1.4 million people signed up. We have been recognised by various aid agencies including the UN

We have been used to help with planning for transition towns and sustainable communities

Video's are going up... I'll try and highlight a few of the cycling ones, overall there was a lot of cycling chat and some good information beyond just mapping of routes and route finding.

The is a short talk by Martin Lings, talking about mapping and some of the new cycle routes in Edinburgh.

This talk was by Robert Weetman who is currently working for SUSTRANS signposting the John Muir Way that will run from Dunbar to Helensburgh, as well as some good general stuff on SUSTRANS and especially their relationship to the OpenStreetMap community.

    Thanks for posting.

Can't see the videos from here but I watched the Martin Lings one last night (assuming it was the one tweeted by @OSMScotland).

I was a bit amused that 90% of his talk was backed by a massive OS map.

Also his confusion as to why the Mayfield Road bit of route 6 had been left off (although I see that it's on now).

cb no problem on posting, I'm one of the people on the OSMScotland account so have been posting the cycling relevant video's up here at the same time.

Yes one of the other guys at SotM fixed up the missing part of route 6 earlier in the week, so it all appears well now.

Yes, the OS map is amusing; but that's what they use for planning... hopefully that will change in the future. A long way until we can match the Mastermap level of street detail.

I will also link to the cyclesteets talk once it's up.
