CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

The Council should be able to get the developers to stump up for segregated cycle lanes linking the end of the Leith Walk works with the George Street segregated lanes. Would be good to fill-in the missing link at no cost to the public purse. Might be worth asking about, if anyone can make it along.
I'm confused about what is being suggested. A big hotel with the roads underneath it?
I've no idea how this might work. The roundabout isn't that big, how on earth can you fit a hotel on it or provide access to it off a roundabout? How can there be ground-level "mixed use" units - in the middle of a roundabout? It all makes so little sense.
My assumption is that the street layout would be changed, so Picardy Place and Leith Street would return to being seperate streets and the hotel would take up a triangular site consisting of the roundabout, much of Cathedral Square and the dead space taken up by road, hatching, planting etc.
I've vague recollections of this development being included in the St James Centre redevelopment plans by the same property company.
Effectively returning the road layout to the original layout (Union Place) before the St James Square massacre.
EDIT: For those on facebook:-

@thecockburn We got a letter on Friday to say that this event has been postponed. No new date set yet.

@eddieD, nice photo of Picardy place when it was a place not a lay by and there was no John Lewis, St James Centre, etc. was the Cathedral built at that time too? Looks cool but houses about to be knocked down?
From the 1894 OS Town Plan of Edinburgh;
So yes the Cathedral was already there. However it was always a very narrow set of streets and if you built a hotel in the triangle in the middle I can guarantee you we would end up with another Missoni cycle lane debacle.
Consult the full map in greater detail here
Thanks Kapps
Good to see the tram lines running along Picardy Place.
All churches and Theatre Royal. Seems to have been a whole neighbourhood taken out.
Not just Glasgow that removed neighbourhoods then
I've written to GVA to ask if this event is on or off, but they haven't got back to me....
So will this be done before or after £10000000000 has been spent on re-doing the roundabout as part of the Leith Walk upgrade?
@Min, wrong roundabout. They have resurface York Place, will be removing London Road roundabout (a Good Thing) but Picardy Place remains as is largely, except for seregated bike lane on southbound approach from Elm Row...
Oh really? I am struggling to keep up with the Leith Walk thing. I guess that means the cyclist blender has been scrapped. Not a bad thing.
For all your cyclist blending requirements I recommend a trip to Cameron Toll pentagonabout.
I used to cycle round all the Cameron Toll roundabouts late at night, until I realised that I could eliminate them entirely by taking a quiet route through Priestfield/Prestonfield instead. Much nicer.
I'd love to see the top Leith Walk roundabout replaced by a hotel, as long as it eliminated the road between the hotel and the cathedral. Should simplify the Broughton St junction nicely.
