  2. I see the comments have started already. Two about pavement cycling, one about not wearing a helmet, and one (a cyclist as well) giving a tip of 'stay off the tracks'.

Oof, what an article, my eyes are bleeding, someone should teach Dale some basic English!

    DON'T READ THE COMMENTS!!

    oops, too late.

Funny, I posted this video on Facebook, and 2 of the comments I received (from someone who actually knows me, and IS a keen cyclist (sport) himself!) were very similar....

"what did you do set up a camera on the bend ?"

Later after me explaining mentioning on forum, and @chdot saying, "Oh, I think I have that on video", he says...

"could have been worse considering, he was not wearing a helmet"

Hmm, kind of missing the point, hey ho.

    And then someone else later....

"Anyone who cycles on Edinburghs roads needs their head read imo only. Way dangerous due to drivers, terrain, congestion etc. To do it without a helmet is just lunacy."

  9. Oh my word. You've been rumbled chdot - all a set up!

If you ask me this is the most staged fall I've seen yet 1. Why did he perfectly go into the track 2. Why does he look like he is wearing padding as body in proportion to legs 3. Was the perfect fall so as not to cause home any harm 4. Really truthfully why was this being perfectly filmed I mean come on chances of filming this perfectly??? I think it's just more negativity generated around stuff... We have the tram now (gutted) but let's just get on with it and will people start looking out for themselves a bit better in life and not rely on other to wipe their bottoms!!!!

All the same commenters as usual, with the same usual tripe.

    Yeah I know.

I was there for 10 minutes and every other person was on CCE.

One even has me on video...

Here we have a taxi that has picked up some passengers. The driver has then driven right through the ASL against a red light:
    Red-light-running taxi 1
The taxi is joined by a cyclist who quite sensibly waits behind the taxi:
    Red-light-running taxi 2
    Oh look:
    Red-light-running taxi 3
the taxi driver has found a gap in traffic and driven off. At least the cyclist has the ASL to themselves now.

Do we think the driver of the taxi
    a) didn't notice the traffic lights,
    b) doesn't think they apply to taxis coming out of Haymarket or
    c) really doesn't care?

Fimm: I'm the cyclist in your photos!!

You missed the other point that another taxi turned right out of the ASL!

(I'm also in one of chdot's videos - am I getting stalked?!)

Yay, a spot! (I was standing next to my Brompton, wearing a pink hat and taking photos on my phone)

Has the whole of CCE been cycling back and forth through Haymarket this week??? ;-)

C'mon fess up, Who paid the taxis to drive through a red light and halt in the ASL?? You must be loaded as every taxi I see drives and stops in ASL's and quite a few drive through Red Lights.

@chdot, Perhaps you should film a 10 min piece of the rank, showing taxis driving through these red lights and waiting in the ASL? Then see what the chip wrapper makes of this.

Currently 'trending' is the fact that it was staged, and as WC says, the guy has old newspapers under his shellsuit, the vid is too high a quality for opportunist street media! Not Westgate enough to be cinema verite! How much was chdot paid by Edwin's Burgh Evil News to get a SHOCK HORROR PROBE story kicked onto the chip wrappers of tomorrow? Smacks of brown envelopys to me!?!

Must get down there on the tri-rec and do a few 'touch n' gos' to see how the Fat Apples cope, do a bit of POV with the helmetcam! Cheesy!

Another walk across this lunchtime yielded one waiting taxi protruding beyond the track beyond the jughandle's rear, one non-taxi of unspecified but obvious marque waiting in the ASL zone to drop some people off and then another taxi without even the excuse of having passengers to deposit heaving to at the back of the already-too-long queue.

"every taxi I see drives and stops in ASL's and quite a few drive through Red Lights."

Which reminds me, I took this on Tuesday too -

Presume it's checking how the ASL box and long feeder on Kilgraston Road is being used.

I've also seen cameras used on taxi ranks.

More useful than me hanging around for 10 mins! (At Haymarket.)

It'll get interesting when the trams are running and taxi drivers start playing chance at the back of the queue:

Driver thinks: "reckon I'll be within the jug handle by the time the next tram comes along"
    ...
    <smooth silent approach from behind>
    ...
DINGALINGALING!! (or whatever distinctive noise the trams will make when obstructed)
    ...
meanwhile cyclists can whizz safely round the outside of the stationary tram while cars are forced to wait behind </optimistic scenario>

"I have cycled once after the tram line was laid. I was going from Princes Street to Castle street and my wheels got into the rail. I had to go all the way to the Airport before I could turn, I was exhausted. I use the car now!"

    Great comment.

In the first 2 days since the Haymarket area reopened to traffic we have heard of 4 cyclist tramline crashes, three involving minor injury and bike damage, and one with no injury, but which was video’d. Why is this happening, and what is your safest route?…

    Rumbled!

This morning in the dark and wet was far too hairy. And that was without any significant traffic.
