I might also be interested subject to dates - whole weekends are trickier.

In the meantime, anyone interested in a longer ride this weekend (100+ miles)? I am in prep for the Tayside Transgression. I am open to offers on the route though I am not ready to go on the Redstone - Longformacus road yet.

Amir, did you see Cyclops' route he rode this weekend? Musselburgh - Abingdon - Moffat - Selkirk - Innerleithen - Musselburgh. A nice 200 to warm your cockles. ;0)

Dave, if you have been commuting at least 2-3 times a week through the winter, you'll be fit enough. You have two weeks to ride your bent on an off to get any position/technique right and you told me on the Snow Roads thet you'd only built it that week and pit the crank on the day before. I have only ridden my bent around 10 hours bfore setting off on the Deeside Loop! What could go wrong? Aa you say you'll have short cuts in but I'll be on mine so you'll have someone riding a similar pace up and down hills for company.

Next weekend is out, but the 17th/18th is semi-good for me.

You are ready for Redstone, and I will hit you with a stick until you agree.

Re: Pa's house. The nice thing about it being my Dad's house is that we've got flexibility. Single day event that uses the driveway as a car park is just as viable as a full weekender using the trains.

It's my Birthday on Friday so possibly not going to be able to do a 100 on Saturday.
    Sunday is a possibility.

DaveC - looks a good route to me

Uberuce - 17/18th I am on my taper (a pro, that's me) and out-of-town. Being hit with something big and solid is why I am off the Redstone-Longformacus road for now.

@ARobComp Happy Birthday in advance! (did you see this news?)

I'd be up for a long ride at some point soon (sensible weather permitting, naturally). Max I've done so far this year is 65 miles, so I hope my legs, back, lungs etc are just about ready for it...

@amir. You are tapering on the 17th/18th?? Do you have something long coming up? When is the Etape Caledonia?

Oh right, I'm not doing that, I did the Merse and Moors last month and the Snow Roads next month. Southern Uplands call next weekend.

Anyone I should keep an eye out for on Sunday at the Etape Caledonia? Not that I know what anyone looks like...

@HankChief I'll be setting off at 7.10, black & red Wilier, red jersey & white helmet. Should be easy to spot in 5000+ riders!
I'll likely be the lantern rouge, as I've been on honeymoon the past month. The weather's not looking too bad, metoffice says it's dry in the morning.

Weather looks a bit wet this weekend for training for future events (or indeed undertaking one). Not sure what I'll do. Sunday the better day?

Made it round the Etape Caledonia in 4:47. Very happy with my time, considering I came off 30 miles in and did the rest with a bloody leg. Maybe the adrenaline helped me get round! Weather was brilliant for it, after very worrying weather reports.

@twq - That doesn't sound good - Hope the leg is healing. What happened?

I surprised myself by coming home just under 4hours (and I mean just!).

My 2nd EC and was pretty much what I expected (apart from my time).

Very early start from Edin, chaotic start, some good groups formed, some dodgy ones too (which I chose to leave), Schiehallion was a bit of a shock to the legs after miles of flatish roads, last 25 miles pushing hard to keep up the pace when the legs are complaining, Logierait climb(s) were unpleasant, sprinting up Pitlochry High Street to make a time was absolute agony.

I halfheartedly tried to raise my arms to cross the line, but couldn't pull off a smile and wasn't totally in control of the bike - I won't be ordering that shot!

A good day out - riding in big packs on closed roads being cheered on by onlookers - can be a lot of fun - although they have their moments - like when our gruop of 20 tried to overtake a group of 40 on a narrow road and people tried to switch groups...

I guess it is consequence of it's own success - 4,000 riders will inevitably have a mixed range of abilities - I'd recommend people doing it - but don't think that all sportives are like it.

Roll on 3pistes on the 1st June...

@HankChief I may have been admiring the view, I can't really remember. By work pal who I was on the wheel of moved to the right, and I found myself half an inch too close. Bit of a rookie error, I was being so careful not to half-wheel! Luckily he wasn't affected by the bump, but I went down like a sack of spuds.
Knee is scabbing up nicely, with a good bruise. However no major damage, and I was back on the bike this morning for my commute.

That's good (and twq too if you include 'downtime')

Red Bull then EC... suppose you'll be doing a tandem run on the EC at some point?

Did anyone see any 'wrong' bikes on it? There's usually one or two out of 5000.

LB - I've signed up for the Pedal for Scotland route for me & my boy on the tandem...

I think the hardest thing will be telling my daughter she's not coming too.

I didn't see any 'wrong' bike this year but don't think you would have got a 'bent through the mêlée, so if any they would be further back.

Think I saw a couple of 'bents and tandems last year.

    @HankChief @Laidback

I saw one tandem and a guy on a full suspension mountain bike. Gave him a couple of shouts of encouragement as I (relatively) whizzed past.
My colleague did stop to help me get to my feet. I did ok on Schiehallion, but lost 20 seconds to him on the KOM section. Couldn't catch up again so did the last 30 miles solo. I was surprised by how much the riders were spread out for the last 10 miles.

That me just fitted a new B&M Cyo 80lux light to the bent, plus a topline rear on the rack. All set for the Southern Uplands 400 on Saturday. Just hope my 26" dynamo wheel is ready. :0) the new light is really bright and has a nice wide beam.

I'll be trying my Axa whatever-it's-called for the first time. At least it's been on the bike for about six months so I know the wiring's OK...

Had two quite random garage mechanicals last night. When I got the bike off the wall to put it in the turbo I suddenly noticed the inner had pushed the tyre aside and was bulging out... moments later it exploded. Nothing obvious at either rim or tyre.

I then wanted to swap the 30-42 random chainset that was on the bike for my standard compact off the road bike. No problem, until I came to loosen the front mech and the thread was stripped (no idea how this could have manifested only when I wanted to undo it - blind luck!)

Other mech doesn't fit (different diameter) so I've now got to find a smaller diameter nut and bolt to re-attach the old one securely.

And I'm busy after work already, then it's a 5am start.

    Very traditional last minute panic!
