I have to go from Gorgie to Stockbridge. I do not like cycling on cobbles. I don't want to use the Water of Leith path.

Route suggestions, please? I'll happy cycle on any (legal) road, so quietness isn't a requirement. Lack of cobbles is!

(Yes I know I should say setts.)

Don't know where you start or finish.

Think this avoids cobbley setts (but not hills) -

    How about:

Westfield Road > Roseburn St > Roseburn path > Craigleith/South Groathill Ave > Craigleith Hill Avenue > Carrington Road > Fettes Avenue > Stockbridge?

I was avoiding all off-road, but that would be sensible - esp if start nearer to Russell Road.

That is also the "balanced" option from CS

One of the other options involves a route through St. George's - perhaps not best on a schoolday.

P.s. No tram lines to cross either!

Is it possible to get into Stockbridge without riding over cobbles? I've never found the secret route if there is.

  9. Surely just cut across to Orchard Brae by whatever route and turn right at the roundabout at the bottom. Job's a good 'un (this might be one of the routes linked to above, but I can't access anything!).

    First one (via Ravelston Dykes).

E - surface on Hamilton Place so bad it might as well be cobbled! I'm usually visiting a friend in St. Stephen Street, so thats where my impossibility stems from.

    Thank you everyone.

That's pretty much as I'd thought - I've been on variations/parts of some of those. I just wondered if there were any secret ways I didn't know of!

I quite like the idea of starting out along the North Edinburgh cycle path - I'm starting from near Tynecastle stadium so that's ideal. I'll definitely try that sometime.
