    Belleville Rendez-Vous tonight, BBC4 @ 22:30.

Also some late night repeats of some of Tuesday's programmes.

I enjoyed the Rob Penn programme as he travelled the world looking for the bits for his £4,500 bike.

The odd thing is that before I started following this forum, I would have thought this was a ludicrous amount to spend on a bicycle, but now it seems a bit steep, but not actually totally unreasonable...

I only recently found out that Monsieur Chomet of Bellville Rendez-Vous fame is an Edinburgher at the moment...

Well as long as you are happy with that change of view.

I'm surprised no-one has started a thread to debate his choice of style/frame/components.

Well I would quibble with some of it.

If you're going to put a Brooks on a racing bike at that price why didn't he get a lighter one for another £70?

I hope the wheel builder was badly edited.

He skipped past MacMillan's bike and onto the French.

No matter what he says he isn't going to ride that bike every day. When I used one like that I put it away from the end of September to late April.

@stepdoh - Chomet finished THe Illusionist in Scotland and has now moved to SOuth of France where he thinks the weather is better than North BErwick for picnics

Ahh, so was he just taking in the ambience while making the movie (by the sounds of it he was unimpressed with the animation talent up here too. :S )

Took a long time to draw it - 5 years?? That might be exaggeration. All frames by hand. I think the producers were Scottish but presumably there is not a lot of money in the hand drawn taking 5 years to complete the movie animation game these days so time to move on. I thought his view of Oban was romantic and inaccurate but on a recent trip where I met a guy from sweden who had flown over that day with his bike, the train station ended up exactly where he put it.

This Swedish guy left Sweden in the morning and was in Oban for bedtime, actually he got off at Taynuilt and put a balaclava on as he got on the bike and set off to wild camp. Then it was ferry to Barra (still bad as they are using the wee Millport Ferry so takes 7 hours and if any waves everybody is sick). From Barra he was cycling to Callanish.

I was given the book, he writes quite well. If I had a bike like that I wouldn't go out on it unless nice and dry and clean on the roads. No mudguards either.

I watched the Clare ballding program. She said she was cycling on the authors bike but I was a little dismayed when she then clattered and bashed the bike at every opportunity.
