    Well there's a myth buster - ne'r-do-wells up before mid-day!

Worrying. It's not exactly the stretch of the NEPN most people would associate with the risk of mugging and is a sobering reminder to have your wits about you at all times. Hope the scrotes are caught and properly punished.

Damn. I was on that at 8pm tonight and it was dark, damp and deserted.

May need to use Ferry Road for the winter commute if this becomes a risk :(

@focus, Says Drylaw area near craigleith, I would be vigilant going through that stretch, bit of waste ground etc, beyond sainsburys you can pick up a lot more speed on the longer straight sections. Also man had Eastern European accent, mugger with a better work ethic than locals?

These quibbles aside, all very different from wee malkies after school

As gembo says its a dodgy stretch, moreso for pedestrians wandering back from Sainsburys. I do that stretch every day and you can go through fast in both directions, allowing for pedestrians.

So it does. It was the bit about being near the Sainsbury's petrol station at Craigleith which I concentrated on. Not exactly Drylaw by that description. It would help if the police themselves knew which area they were actually talking about.

I think "regular" muggers and the like will tend to stick to their own patch, so it's helpful to know more precisely where the incident occurred.
